How deep can the weight bolt go?

Hello Everyone,

I have a cue which I would like to add weight to. It currently weighs 17.5oz without a weight bolt and I would like to get it up to 19.25oz. It already has threads for a weight bolt but its only about 4" deep. First off, its not deep enough for the 3 3/4" bolt I need and second, all the weight sits behind my grip hand which really throws off the balance! So my question is, is it possible to go an additional 6", or a total depth of 10" so as not to effect the balance of the cue? Will this have an adverse effect on the integrity of the handle or the whole cue?

Thanks in advance!

All depends on the size of the weight bolt (3/8, 7/16, 1/2 and so forth) and how much you want to spend. A drill could be purchased that will go all the way to the joint and then a long tap welded up although there is usually a stud at the A-joint that would limit the travel that far. Could be expensive though. On my cues the cue is drilled and tapped 11" from the end of the cue.

I believe the bolt is 3/8x16. I think a procedure like this is best left to a professional. How much would something like this cost?

So can this be done without adversely affecting the cue? About how much would a cuemaker charge for this?

Thanks!

I think it will ruin the balance of the cue.
Unless the pin is removed, some weight added under that then adding more at the bottom ( same weight ) so that the balance of the cue stays.
For what it's worth, I think adding 2 ounces of weight on the cue ( not counting the pin ) adversely affects the cue's overall reasonance.

check (or xray) the cue first, some have weights fore and/or aft of the handle already, it might be a disaster waiting to happen of you start drilling.

you didn't mention the brand of the cue, so I'm just guessing as to how the 'maker' actually assembled it.

GOod for you for thinking about the balance. I got a great deal on a cue once- it was 17oz- needed to changethe weight...had it done, and voila! The balance was so far back that it had a date with flea-bay days later.

Cost me $100.:(

Mike Montalvo made the cue. The handle all the way down to the butt is a single piece of maple.

Just a thought....can a longer pin and a weight bolt be added to get the cue to your desired weight and keep the balance better??
