How did I make this shot on the 8 ball?

The 8 ball is frozen and can't make the cross side bank because of a double kiss...

Three shots I can think of.

One is cross corner, it is a tricky shot but possible. Was making practicing it last night and just found out how to hit by accident. Of course that was on a bar box.

Another would be two rails in the side.

And the last one I've seen is using the tit and playing it down the same rail its on now in the corner.

All of them seem low precentage, but since it looks like do or die you might of tried one of them. I personally would of tried to put the cue ball on the bottom rail, and the eight on the far rail, and hoped my oppenent didn't like long cuts or banks.

The shot for the situation is the cross corner bank because a short side miss, which would leave something along the lines of that shown below, will still give you a chance to win the rack.

1) Two rails to pocket A. This full hit allows you to control the cue ball, and the object ball.

)END

2) Just for fun -> shoot the double kiss bank in the corner

Figure 1 : bank cross-side, assuming the ball is frozen right at the nipple.

Figure 2: cut across the face of the 8 to bank cross- corner.

Is this, the hit it really full with draw to force it in the side where its at?
Also if the table plays well, you can hit rail first with a ton of right hand english and cut it in the corner past the side pocket.

Go directly into the point of the side pocket. The cue-ball will rebound off the point and go directly into the eight. With a firm stroke, you should expect to pocket the ball in the lower right corner. It's a hanger.

cubswin & Jude were correct. I played the cue ball off the tit and it went very smoothly in the corner pocket it was closest too. I did this at a club playing a really good looking girl who couldn't run two balls. Big crowd standing around and they went wild after I made the shot. I wish I could say she was so impressed with the shot that she fell instantly in love with me but dammit she didn't know enough pool to appreciate it. I also had to go right after that game unfortunately.

Tracy

It was not close enough to the pocket to bend it through the cushion into the side.

SJM if I was in a tournament or playing for money, I would play the shot you suggested but I was just having fun and slightly intoxicated. I learned that shot from reading one of Robert Byrne's books.

I know the shot you played, but just like every other shot recommended in the thread, it's no bargain, so I'm not playing anything that's not two way here. TD873's shot #1, the double bank, is also an excellent choice, giving you a chance to win on a shot that has quite a bit of downside protection. Incidentally, Cubswin's choice to play safe here also deserves very high marks. The safety is gonna win the rack a pretty high percentage of the time, and may well represent the most likely path to victory.

In the end, however, Deadpoked, the objectve of shooting pool is to have fun. It's clear you had fun shooting it the way you did, so I'm cool with it.

Ironically, playing nine-ball tonight, the exact situation came up on the 5-ball. I played it, made it and got out from there. It really is easier than it looks if you know how to play it.
