How do you cope?

I finally jumped into the pool and ordered a custom shaft. It's going to be 12.25mm, and a little longer than my current one. I'm VERY excited to get this done and really pleased at the deal I was given as well as with my wife for agreeing to get it for me. Here's my problem...

It's going to take 4-6 weeks before it's made and shipped. How do you guys cope with waiting that long? Now that I know it's coming, I hate my current shaft even more. Every time I take it out I find a really small knick in it, every time I shoot I think "God that tip is huge". Also, it's probably in need of a new tip, but I don't feel like doing all the work of replacing it when it won't be used anymore (unless something tragic happens with the new one). It's even starting to affect the eay I play! When I'm on my shot I think about that giant tip and how much I hate it, thus taking away from the reason I'm down over the cue ball in the first place.

What do I do for the next month or 2????

We'll have to start a "In Limbo" Support group. What are you doing to not think about it every time you play?

I waited 10 years for my current playing cue. It was worth it.

Six weeks will go by before you know it.

Isn't 4 weeks referred to as "next-day service" in the cue business?

My last cue only took three months from order to delivery and I was happy as a pig in ...uh... happy as a pig with a new cue.

I'll sand it down to 12.25mm with a lathe made from legos like someone posted on here. lol. Of course, the ferrule and tip would still be 13, but I'd be used to the slight difference in feel by the time I got the new one.

FYI- I'm kidding. Not really going to do that. I don't want someone on here doing it and saying "I read about it on a forum once".

Why are you having a shaft made? Why can't you have your current shaft turned down to the specs you want?

This is what I am thinking. There is a nick in the shaft and the shaft is also too large. Take it to a cue maker or repair and have a new tip put on and turn the shaft down. Turning down the shaft will remove the nick and make it the size that you want. You will now have a back up and something close to your new one to help your sanity until you get it.

Play with a house cue for awhile, then yours will look a lot better.

Because he's willing to work with me on price. I'm disabled from a work injury and have no income. This means the wife is supporting 2 adults and 3 kids, I can't afford the things listed in the "for sale" section. I'd love to have gotten a shaft in a much quicker time, but that would've meant a LOT more money being spent to do so. Money we just don't have. If I was able to work it'd be different.

Again, to back to my original question, why didn't you have the original shaft turned down? Would have been a lot cheaper??
