how do you feel when you lose

It depends on some variables...

- Who did I lost to?
- Was it a league match?
- Was it a gambling match? If so for how much?
- Was it a tournament? How much was on the line for a win vs a loss?
- Was it vs a friend that I was just dinking around with at the bar?
- How did they react after they won?
- How did they behave during the match?...as in, just like a normal respectable opponent, or a trash talker throughout or even before the match etc.

When I miss, I go sit down and mentally play every shot my opponent has. When he gives me a chance I'm ready and jump on it. My misses only bother me until I get back to my chair... then they're all but forgotten

I hate it mightily. As the last ball drops, my face and ears get hot. I see the big smile on my opponent's face, as he walks towards me with the hand out, basking in the warm glow of victory. With the fire burning inside me, I wonder if I'm going to go bath salt zombie on him. Then I put on my fake smile, shake hands, and say "good game." The skillet that is my face cools back down and I try to focus harder and play smarter the next game:grin:

This might not be the best answer to handling a loss......
...but for me it's the funniest post in the thread.

..bath salt zombie????:eek::rotflmao1::lol::killingme:

Just play

If I played well I'm happy.

If I played poorly I'm unhappy.

If I lost it spurs me to practice more.

If I won it spurs me to practice more.

How I feel is transient, my level of play is much more stable, so that is what I focus on. I almost don't care about winning or losing. I do care how I played. Winning or losing will take care of themselves.

If i lose and make a crucial mistake, I go ballistic internally and visibly frustrated, but will calm down in a few minutes.

If I lose and make forgivable errors and my opponent played well, I've been known to be the best loser in the universe.

If I lose and I made an uncharacteristic mistake, it haunts me for years.

I am rather much like Mr. Freedie.

One needs to learn the diffence between losing & getting beaten, as well as, winning & being lost to. Also there is neither, it is just the roll of the balls, however one or another is on the 'winning' or 'losing' side of the outcome.

I hate causing myself to lose, I don't really mind, too much, getting beaten, if my opponent is better & has earned his win, all I can do is change strategies & give it my best shot.

I like to win, but I really don't get too high with any exhuberence unless there was I great shot that I made to earn the win.

There is always another game or match to be played. Take it, the win or loss, for what it was & prepare for the next competion.

Regards &

this is easy for me. Obviously I HATE to loose. It doesnt matter if it's best friends having fun at the table, leage, or whatever. I HATE it. I dont yell or throw things, but those who know me can see it on my face.
Certainly if you play well and get beat that's not nearly as bad of a feeling.

There is one common feeling regardless of ANY loss that is the first thing to my mind every single time.....

GET ME BACK UP TO THE TABLE!!

I just want to play again. To have a chance to redeem myself or give it another shot...... I never want to play more than I do after a loss.

If it's a loss that particularly stings, it can really light a fire under my arse or the lesson learned really sinks in.

Other than that, I figure I play so many damn games that it's got to happen. As long as I keep myself on the plus side, I'm happy. Smile, shake hands and have a beer.

Thank you reporting out the part about the difference between winning and being lost to. I did not go far enough in my thought process even look at that point of view. I will really have to put a leash on my ego For that 1.

I only lose 2x every tourney!

Honestly, I feel I have a good outer attitude, but inside... I am crying like a little girl.

I hate losing way more than I enjoy winning. With that said, I'm over it in about a minute. I use losses to evaluate my weaknesses and determine where I need to put the most focus on improvement. It's generally difficult to evaluate why you won. You can often point to several specific things that largely contributed to you losing. I don't rationalize losing with this, I simply choose to at gain something from it and then put in the table time to minimize the chances of it happening again.

I could have written this post myself. ^

The winning/losing aspect does not even factor why I'm at the poolhall in the first place. #1, I just want some good, friendly competition/interaction. #2, I want to shoot to my best capabilities. If I win, it's just icing on the cake.

I am retired. I am home alone all day as my wife still works (God bless her soul). I have a lot of time on my hands AND a home table. I practice a LOT. If and when I get into a game/match with someone who is fun to play and I shoot well and lose, no big deal because I've already achieved both of my goals for the night. About the only thing that bothers me is when I fail to get out because I "dogged" the simplest shot in the run due to "rushing the shot", or "jumping up", or some other thing that a good practice routine should eliminate from my game.

It's just a game. Winning or losing will not change anything else in my life.

I tend to forget most victories. I usually remember only the special or extraordinary ones where I either played almost perfectly, or I've beaten a highly skilled opponent.

When I lose, I feel kinda mad and a little depressed if I played terrible or had a great chance, but getting defeated when I did my best doesn't really shake my emotions up. Still, nearly every loss remains carved in my memory somewhere, and I can put it away completely only if I get my revenge.

How do you feel when you lose? And how do you deal with it? I absolutely hate to lose, I'm okay if I get beaten. I do not know whether or not I know the difference or not . My mind is flushed with emotions and thoughts regarding losing. I hope that some of you have a more organized view on the subject That would give me more perspective.

I hate losing because I played bad. That's the hardest thing for me to deal with, is losing by from giving the match away. If someone puts a big package on me or just plays lights out, I recover rather quickly. Dogging it angers me and there is a chance I will act like a little ***** for a bit:grin:...

It depends on how I lost.Did the guy out play me?Did he get lucky rolls or did I get some bad rolls.
If the guy played good and beat me then I have no problem with that.
If the guy dogs his brains out and get lucky leaves the I hate it.
If I get bad rolls its frustrating or even worse if the table rolls off then I get a little mad.
I played in a tourn a few months ago.64 player field.I`m playing a match that loser will get 5/6.I have ball in hand on the seven.I put the cue ball 1 diamond below the side pocket almost frozen to the rail. The seven is hanging in the corner.I slowroll the cueball and it misses the seven by 4 inches. My opponent was sitting behind me and gasp when he saw it.
after that game we rolled the ball again and it done the same thing.
Lucky I had him 6 to 1 in a race to seven. I found the room owner and showed that to him and he said he will get around to fixing it.That was the only match I played on that table and I`m glad.

^This.. Can't really recall many wins.. I remember most loses tho.

*I do remember getting the 678 & the breaks (race to 7) from Richie Rich at pool sharks in vegas and snapping in the money balls off the break 6 outta 7 times back when I was a super noob.. (now im just a regular noob lol.)

Second set I didn't get the breaks anymore and got owned. 8-(
