How do you get off the end rail

Ray Martin addressed this shot in his 99 Critical Shots (or was it Byrne's Standard?)

the truth is it's almost impossible, it's aided with the use of afaulty rails though

the shot presents itself in pro snooker a fair amount off the black and they can barely move the ball a few inches up table, usually they play safe

I have seen this scenario numerous times in pro pool tournaments and have never ever seen a player attempt anything but a safety

and head up table with the cb when both cb and ob are frozen to the end rail.

Can you get uptable? I can't. Any suggestions? How far uptable is a reasonable goal to work on?

What changes to each ball position would make for a doable shot/and what positions would make it impossible?

Well-I went to the poolroom today and tried several of the suggestions.

I can report that I can't make this shot.

I did manage to draw the cb back and scratch while making the 8ball. I also was able to jump both balls off the table while attempting the rail bounce thing.

The room manager was walking by and asked what I was trying to do. I told him.

He hit it once and this was the result:

Like that? he asked. I said -yeah.

I packed up and came home. I suck.

Tommorrow, I'm working on stop shots.

For those of you that can hit this..good shot! Me-not so much.
