How do you get your computer connected to your TV?

KK9L,

All is not lost. You don't really need to spend 2 grand, but I would recommend getting a new flat screen television (they're cheaper-than-hell right now). My computer is about 12 years old (an HP tower). I've got my flat screen hooked-up to the computer using this method from justadub: "If your laptop is from the last 1 to 2 years, it may have HDMI. This is the best. And easiest. If not, you can use VGA (and you will need an aux cable for audio)."

I have the VGA cable paired with an audio cable to recieve perfect streaming on my TV.

A good TV in the 32 to 42-inch range can now be purchased for under $500.

Ouch... My tv is a tube, not flat screen/HDMI. My laptop is @ 5 years old... Johnny T advised via PM that I take my laptop to a Best Buy/Radio Shack along with my TV info and HOPE I find intelligent life. I think that's probably my best chance at connecting. Orrrr, go to EZ Money's place with a 43 inch set-up that's already a proven entity (and bring beer and chips!).

Up until a year or two ago we had an old 27" RCA console in the living room that we bought in 1992. My wife and daughter loved that thing and shunned my suggestions to get a big screen. Finally they relented now we have streaming HD etc etc.

Now since a lot of broadcasts are in wide screen format, the shape of the old tube televisions just doesn't accommodate the picture. I like the big screen for HD sporting events - nothing like it.

32" tv's are under $300 now. It's crazy, comparing the same type of sets 3-4 years ago. I'm sure the 40" and bigger sets are similarly lower in price these days.
