How do you guys handle the loud music at pool halls?

About 10 yrs ago I guess. It was loud as hell in the place I was playing because the bartender was letting his favorite tipper screw with the pool players and I decided it was over and I quit. So my buddy who was pissed I quit started raising hell with the guy that was doing it. The short story is we both got banned but the whole place got an earfull and half of them scared to death of my friend! It was one of those epic moments in life I wish I could recreate it for you, funny as hell really Anthony waving his stick around wanting to fight the whole place.

Moral to the story: Don't screw with folks you don't really know. :D

Best answer imho is buy your own table if it bothers you that much. If that's not an option try to go early during the week. Typically a lot less rowdy and loud. Also going during non prime hours means you don't typically need to wait on tables to open up for play. Just my .02

Owners went to loud music and everything else non - pool related in pool rooms when the number of people who were supposed to go there bc of a high interest in the game itself just stopped showing up. Gyms are the same way- ear shattering rap music, etc. - somehow all of this music is supposed to motivate me to work out or play pool?

I never needed blaring music for the enjoyment of either pool or a gym - just like what they have turned basketball and other stadiums into --- just noise environments. It is the way of the world now- sadly.

The public does not rally want skill or competition anymore- just high volume entertainment- the pool room used to be a place to relax - no longer.

The younger generations are so hyped up today that for most- the pure pursuit of enjoying a sport or game for just what it was first conceived to be has long past gone by the boards.

Thankfully, in the pool room, when in competition, my focus and concentration is still high enough that I just don't hear the music - except between matches or when I first arrive at the pool venue.

How bout this...
At one of the locations my team plays, we get there for practice and all seems normal. You get a general mix of music. Mostly classic rock, old school Elvis, Cash, Sinatra, etc.
As the night continues the dynamic usually takes a shift around 9 or 10. The younger crowd moves in and take over with their crappy hip hop and dance music. I'm not stuck in the oldies. I like new music as well as old, but I'm on the rock side of things. Game-wise I'm not affected by music while playing. I tend to get sensory blinders once I focus on the table.

Last time I was there it wasn't the juke-box that changed, they had a DJ controlling the music that night. Whatever, time to play. Then in the middle of the game I set up my shot, leaned over, focused on the ball, and then Bam! there was a foot and a half round spotlight on the table in front of me. Then it started to move across the table. I stood up and there were circles and stars floating around the room across all the tables. Guess it was Disco time. It did catch me off guard at first, but I reset and finished the game.

Made for an interesting evening seeing how each player dealt with it. I think the young girls in their outfits were the bigger distraction and reduced the complaints about the music and lights.
