Here's a example of a shot I teach in my clinics.
Can some of the viewers give their thoughts on how they play this position, what technique, speed, hit, position if any...
White is cue ball.

P.S. In a day or so, I'll reveal how I play this shot, and why!

2 cushions first out of lower left corner - long, short, ball, long.
or
Thin off right side of yellow, right spin, long, long, short.
or
Left side of yellow, left spin, long, long, short.
or
Right side of yellow, look out for that kiss!, long, long, long

I might try off the left side of the yellow, thin, with very low and slight left english and play cross table with a little speed: long, long, long, ball or even 4 or 5 rails before scoring.

Very thin off the left side of yellow, one tip of left english, five cushions.

Power stroke ???????????

Bill, I would play this shot off the left side of the yellow, extremely thin with low left english with a draw power stroke the cueball goes to left rail long, then fades, curves slightly and reverses across to long, long, and most times short also! I find that hitting the yellow ball thin enough causes it to go very slow, one, two or three rails ending near the bottom corner thereby leaving your next shot a natural. By going long, long, long the point ball target area becomes quite large!---- I know I can score the point sometimes! -------------- How would you score the point?

Dan,

I already posted this solution. You stealing my shots??? LOL.

Nice idea Bill lets keep it going

5 rails thin off left side of yellow. Play for 4th rail hit of about 23 to 30 depending on "the Table" The whip out ( closer to the corner ) between rail 4 and 5 might help on long playing tables. Why ? its nothing more than a long natural extended. If, you've remembered the track of all the times you went around a natural !!! IMO

I'm a thief !!!!!!!!!!!!

Jim, Yes, I am stealing your shot!, got any more??????? I steal every shot I can if it works for me as long as there is no copyright symbol attached to it. I also stole this shot from Harry Sims many years ago! Harry was quite an excellent power shot guy!, and as you probably know a great player. I'm glad that I agree with your solution and I'm just hoping this is the correct solution that Bill is looking for.

I see a few options:

- off left side of yellow, long, long, end rail and ball. Or even firmer going long, long, long, maybe long again, working down the table to hit the red. I think the choice of english (reverse, low, etc.) would depend on the type of hit and approach being used, some creativity there. In theory could do the same off the right side of the ball as well

- fullish hit on the yellow, draw out of the bottom right corner 3 rails to the red. Hit/spin wouldn't be too hard, only issue would be avoiding hitting the yellow into the red and also getting the cueball long enough

- Umbrella shot off the left side of the red, 2 rails first then floating down toward the yellow hoping to pick up a rail or 2 near the corner. Poor choice safety wise but might be pretty accurate given the location of the red

- Seems like there might be a possible 4 or 5 rail backup option, going off the left side of the yellow firm just below the middle of the left long rail, the white might follow a path around the table and backup down into the shot. Haven't been to a table in quite some time so have no idea if this would be a viable track speed wise or otherwise, just a possibility like some other backup tracks I've seen in the past that sometimes can be more reliable than you think...

Curious for Bill's answer...

Going for shape I'd go off the right side right spin thin. That pushes the red toward the corner and the yellow is a couple diamonds up the right long rail.

I set this shot up and tried it several ways.
I actually made it on the third try, 2 rails first out of left corner, long, short, ball, long. This was also a good defensive play with the right speed. I also made it after several tries thin off the left side of the yellow, dead ball, five rails. Came close playing off left or right side of yellow, long, long, short. Off right side thin with a little draw and right spin was easier to control the yellow and keep it below the half table mark. Playing off the left side of the yellow was harder to control the yellow. My table is somewhat slow making the shot harder any way you play it. Playing long, long, long was possible but hard on my slow table.

No, didn't try that. With slower table thin hit, center ball helps it get around the table. 1/5 ball hit, I don't see that recommendation . . .
