Anybody esle have this problem and more importantly, has anyone found solutions? Ive tried chugging ice cold water, i wear lite clothes.....its not the pressure of gambling, i sweat regardless of whether im practicing or playing. Buy your own table and play butt naked :D

Yep.. I get sweated up also, not as bad as jogging though! I don't know what you can do about it except maybe slow down some. I have seen Pros perspire a lot also in a match.

while practicing, you're going to me more prone to sweating and such, as you are constantly at the table, moving around, shooting, etc, etc. when you start getting hot, take a seat for a few minutes. drink something, and don't be anxious to get back to the table so fast. (side note: this also is good for practice because it will somewhat be like shooting a match. ever notice that in practice you're making EVERYTHING, or seem to? thats because you're constantly shooting. this will help will coming to the table somewhat cold and shooting) when i practice i usually have an instructional book or two with me, after a while of shooting i'll sit down for a few minutes and read.

as far as when playing a match, the only thing i can think of would be to make sure that you take a seat every time that you're not at the table. this will also help with stamina during long matches.

and if you don't have money enough for your own table so you can play naked, you can always lather yourself up in rosin before you head out to the pool hall.......

thanks

Hey, Scotty. I have to same problem. Doesn't matter if I'm feeling hot or cold, there's always some perspiration at my forehead. The tickling sensation is which bothers me the most and I have to wipe my forehead a few times during a rack when it's really bad. That's why I always carry some paper towels with me.

But, I have noticed that if I have a big tournament ahead, I try to do some physical exercise 1-3 days before the tournament which makes me sweat big time and thus making it a little bit easier in the tournament. A good fast-paced walk for more than 30 minutes will make you sweat nicely. Also, I've found out that concentrating on your breathing during matched will make your heart rate go down and the sensation of being hot will be eased a little bit. You know, most animals (dogs etc.) get rid of excess heat by breathing or panting, because they don't sweat.

Hope this helps. I'm also a big guy, 6'5" and nowadays I carry some 40lbs of extra weight... but planning to get rid of it :D

All the advice seems good to me.
Either live with it.
Slow down.
Controlled breathing.

They all work (except the first one :p ) well. I've got the same problem, at 6'1" (or thereabouts) and 225 lbs. I used to weight close to 300 lbs, so the sweating has come way down from then.
And Mikko??? We all are PLANNING to get rid of the extra weight... why can't society let us be fat and happy?

Thanks,

Jon ~~~ So damn happy he can't see straight...

Move To Alaska And........

PLAY OUTDOORS-

Seriously - I am addicted to steam. I have one in our master bath with a whirlpool tub and big shower. I spend about 35 min every morning in the 110 wet heat. I get my BPM's up to 120 or so and this is where I shave, brush my teeth, etc.
I find that after sweating out all the impurities and stuff in the morning, I don't sweat very much at all the rest of the day. Even in St. Louis summers which get very hot & humid.

TY & GL

Breathe Man, Breathe!

I think it is super important to breathe as naturally as possible.

I get hot sometimes too, and I figured out it was because I was holding my breath while lining up shots and getting ready to stroke the cue ball....trying to stay as steady as possible.
Breathing in air helps regulate your body temperature. Next time you are playing concentrate on how well you are breathing...that may be the issue.

Move to a state where it's cold, like Alaska, Montana, North Dakota and wear short sleeves. I had a neighbor a couple of years ago that used to burn BTU's all the time. It could be 50 degrees outside and he'd be in short sleeves sweating. It was unbelievable...I'd be freezing my ass off at the same time.
Watch your intake of saturated fats, trans-fatty acids, and sugar. If you say that you're a large, big guy...you probably do need to lose some weight.
More than you're willing to admit or want to work at.

Actually, I already moved from planning stage to execution stage. And I'm happy, screw the society ! :D I used to do a lot of sports and I have also some weight as muscles and nowadays when I'm not active in sports, my meals are still the same and calory intake remains much more than I consume. So, I gain weight if I don't do anything. I think I weight around 260 lbs nowadays... I used to weight 200 but I'd be happy and feeling lighter as a 220lbs beefcake...

I'd rather get rid of some weight if I can get rid of my sweating. Makes tournament play quite irritating sometimes during the summer...

well im 6'4" 225, I probably could stand to lose some weight but i dont have a skinny frame or anything. The breathing thing is a good point. Ive been reading Pleasures of small motions to help with my mental game, and I did notice the other night when i was in a tense match and nervous I was holding my breath. Im trying to work on that more. I dont wanna play pool nekkid for fear of chalking up the wrong pointy object, although i could afford my own table. The sweating out impurities thing is interesting, although I sat in a sauna a few times b4 and hated it. I guess im just hotnatured or something. Anyway, thanks for the advice, I will try to focus on the breathing and see if this helps it ease up some.

sweaty guy

I have the same problem. I sweat just standing around in most places where others are cool. I am of average wieght, I found that the products that you ingest, mainly carbonated, have a big effect on that. I went from drinking a ton of pop and beer in a day to drinking more water and the amount of sweating that I have has drastically reduced. So on days when you are going to play, drink lots of water and no soda and see what happens.

First, try wearing lighter colored clothing, which will reflect rather than absorb light. If you have a choice between tables with fluorescent lighting or regular lighting, go with fluorescent, which will give off less heat. Finally, if you need it, wear a cap, a headband or wristbands.

I'm a big guy too Scotty but I don't have that problem. However, I spend a lot of time in tropical areas, so here are my suggestions in general for keeping cool. Wear a hat (backwards if necessary for shooting pool) to absorb sweat. I've seen a lot of good players do this. The moist headband will keep your head cool and prevent sweat from getting in your eyes. Wear cotton shirts, short or no sleeved, cotton shorts, and sandals no socks. You might want to try baby powder or jock itch powder on your sweaty areas.

Maybe this is not your fashion style but you'll be a lot more comfortable. It's probably the combination of your size and getting excited, nervous, or agitated playing pool.
