How does a Carolina cue play? Comparisons please!

I have been looking at the Carolina Custom cues for a while, and I have heard they play good. My question is, how do they compare to a Scruggs, Southwest, Mottey, etc. I like a good "ponk" or "ping" noise when I hit a ball, do they have that sweet sound? How stiff do they play? I like a stiff cue, but not so stiff that I cant move the ball. Thanks for all the help and info!

I'd say mine is a hair more than 2/3 of the way between a meucci and a southwest. I dont particularly care for stiff cues and find this one to be perfect. Paired with a kamui soft I think I got the perfect combination for me. I'm guessing any ping is dampened by the soft tip so I cant speak to that. Hope that helps.

The Carolina cue that I tried did have a little ping to it. It was a Cocobolo Steel Joint. The last couple cues I made have that nice tone as well. I am also a fan of the 'ping harmonic'.

How do they play? Depends on who is holding the cue. As for the sound, well, the only sound that means anything is the sound of a ball hitting the back of the pocket...
 
I'm an old Schon and 70's Joss guy, but I had a cheap Carolina merry widow that played great! One of the best cues I've played with. I sold that then bought another one a year later. It didn't have the same magic.
 
I have a carolina cue that I bought here. I changed the tip to kamui med. My cue is the flat face wood to wood joint. There is a ping with the hit. The hit to me is soft. I can draw the cue ball with ease. Hope this helps. Skip :)
 
Thanks atthecat and skip for your opinions. I guess I will hold off for a while on buying one. It seems that most people feel that these cues hit soft, so I may have to pass on one of these cues for now, at least until I get to hit with one. Thanks for all the input!
