How does you local poolroom treat you?

The man behind the counter knows me well but the waitresses change every week lol. Its 12 buck an hour but I pay 6. Depending who works behind the counter, I play for free but I leave him a big tip if it happens. they cater more to the drinking crowd though :(

i go to a room where the owner gives me a 3.00 dollar an hour rate on some old style diamond bartables ( i havent seen another anywhere so its a waste of time to play on them ) and he know i dont like the tables..................... he has 1 9ft the lights are almost burnt out it takes me 1 hour to get used to it ( and im young so i no its not a sign of old age) he plays in his own tournaments and wins money ............... if he doesnt he will put a better player in...... and will lie and facebook creep on you

BillyJack, you are lucky to have a pool hall that close to your home!!

My "home room" is South Hills Golden Cue, in Bridgeville, a Pittsburgh suburb. The owner, Jimmy Marino, is a former top pro from the 70's. Rates are dirt cheap at $4.75/ hour per person, $10 flat rate before 7 PM, so I've never asked for a break. Well-polished balls, clean 9 ft GC's and friendly people, both staff and patrons. No bar or kitchen, it's just a pool hall. I'm not really a hard-core regular, since I only play a few hours a week, but I get treated like one every time I visit. There's always a thanks and kind word from the staff, regardless of who's manning the counter.
Good equipment, good atmosphere, and great treatment from the staff will keep me coming back. I feel fortunate to have such a place only 10 minutes from home.

Bill

With the price of gas going up every hour, it must really be nice to have a pool hall that close to your home! And friendly people too. We have nice friendly people, my Home Pool Hall is a long ways from my house. Very nice place though. Buffalo's Billiards. New Diamond tables, plus some bar boxes. Take care.

Bananas in San Antonio is where I go after work which is about 11pm. They will charge me five/hour but usually the last hour is free before they close at 2AM. The people that work there are great. The players are great, not much high pressure hustling since Buffalo aka jesus christ left town. Good 9 foot gold crowns.

The employees have a sense of humor, when I showed up one night and took over a table that someone had just finished playing on the waitress came over and asked me for a deposit. I said sure, and started to unbuckle my pants and asked her if they had opened up a sperm bank and I DID NOT GET THROWN OUT OF THE PLACE.

During the day I go to clicks which has nice gold crown 9 footers for $2 for the afternoon until 7pm. Not 2/hour, we are talking 2/for the whole afternoon. Both pool rooms are about ten minutes from my house so I am a happy camper.

When I lived in Maryland it was a different story, high price pool halls, idiots running some of them. One place I visited had about twenty tables and it is early afternoon, they have the window shades open and glare all over the table she assigns me. I asked about closing the window shades and she starts bitcn. Then other players show up and she puts them on the tables right next to us. I asked her if I could change tables and she starts bitcn again because she wants to keep our mess in the same area. Then I go to check out and she tells me I need to return the cue chalk that I left on the table. First and last time I went there.

My last homeroom treated me great. I got free pool 24/7, free tips put on, and the best table and balls when available. In return I spent about $300 a week on drinks and food. Johnnyt

What's up Lock!

I used to live a block away  from Hard Times here in SoCal, we had to move this January adding 7 more blocks or 4 mins to my travel time!!!

Ric, you still have a going on! I wish my pool hall was that close to me...

What's up, is all of these parades going on all over the city and other places for Mardi Gras. way to much traffic and people everywhere. This makes travel time to the pool hall much longer and harder to do! Good thing my pool hall is open 24-7, no locks on the doors. Very good to hear from you Ric23, my friend.
Do you like where you moved to, better?

lets see.. how are our local pool halls like...

the best place for billard SPORTS would be a place where the Monday night tournament usually has 40-60 players (5€ entrance fee, no added money), after 16 tournaments, the highest ranked 32 players will be able to compete in a final though... 1 € of the entrance fee goes in a one rack 9 ball shootout jackpot)

they have perfect equipment, enough space betweeen the tables, even on soccer nights (champions league etc), shown with several beamers on the walls

the rates are I think 6,50€/h till 7ish and then change to 7,50€, for regulars you get the chance to pay 15€ once and get a 15% discount on your table time
they have two waitresses that know their business, while the rest sucks badly, so I still seldom go there, except the tourny....

there are a few other places where my friend and I go for shooting, where we also get good equipment, nice staff (at least nobody disturbing your play badly)...

may fav pool hall however is to far off for my friend and me to play (for me it is only 15km, however since he lives about 50km away from me in the opposite direction and has no car....

I guess all pool halls here have the problem, that it is Germans being the owners and waitresses, which explains the attitude... It feels in general "Be happy, that you may wait for us", an discounts are usually NOT given anywhere...

Onething about pool halls in Germany however... I have never seen a 8' table before I came to the states... a few 7' bar boxes with a coin system in pubs, but never regular 8' tables...

I loved clicks in Austin Texas, where people knew me to be the guy from Germany wanting a diet coke and a nine footer during daytime, even after I returned more than a year later (I used to play there for some 6 weeks in 2006 on my first business trip down there)... they charge $5 for the time till 7pm flat and then get a bit more expensive, but the chicken strips are great and the drinks are cheap too

Slick Willies in Burnet road was great for the evenings (if you spend so and so much on drinks you might get flat table time, or 2 drinks for one, etc) and there was always someone to shoot, in both places...
one of the cuties at Slick Willies tried to kill me however a few times by tapping my should while looking up a ball, asking if I want another diet coke... her smile ressourected me however...
They did however only have two or three 9'ers...

there were other places, however that would not be visited here in Germany.. bad table cloth, unfriendly staff and so on...

My local place treats me well. The rates are very cheap ($4.50/hr, $10.00 from open til 7 M-TH). The owner and employees all know me and treat me well as I do them.

It's a small room with 14 tables and a table in a back room for parties. There are a few TVs for the sports fans as well.

I used to love my local pool room, then I didnt really care about it, and now its feeling more like I belong there. The owner ran it into the ground, so he ended up leasing the pool and food business out to a guy that has owned three bars, and so far he has really turned it around and made people feel welcomed. The owner insists there cannot be any kind of cue sales in his hall unless you are buying a cue from him, for full retail price of course. If you happen to talk about buying or trading for a cue, he will give you the evil eye and threaten you with legal action for doing business on his property, lol. Hes really got a firm grip on the customer service concept, lol. Luckily, the guy managing the joint now is very customer oriented. He cuts people slack on table time pretty often, and he stays open late when I go in so I can play. I work late, and usually its closed, but if I show up, he has stayed open and let me and a buddy play for an hour or two, and we were the only two in there. I know most of the people in there, I laugh my ass off most times I go in, the food is really good, and quite reasonable, and there are five 9' gold crowns that are mostly level. All in all, its a good pool room.

Hi there,

in the 80 s a pool-room announced in a newspaper that they opened around near my home. Immediatley went there and shot some balls alone. A hugly great and *bit* older man was watching me. It was old *Mr Spielmann*-a real carom legend (think he still holds records in germany). On the 2nd day he asked some things (what you re doing there? bc i was practicing straight-pool) i explained him: Answer: Hmmm, mumble-mumble.
He gave me 2 advices about my stroke and stance, and i thought to myself "who is that ?" Thinking about it i tried to work on it bc it makes sense and increased really fast my game- 2-3 days later a *younger* man came in, who watched me, too. It was the son of *Mr. spielmann* and the owner of the pool-hall. He was also a 3c player-but like *many* (not all^^) carom players didn t have an idea about pool-was more thinkin like "let s show the young man how to play billiards, lol" - i hammered him some hours without letting him a chance for hours. This was the beginning of a big friendship-until today. from this day there was no need for me to play anymore for practicing pool in his pool-hall- furthermore also not in the billiards-room from his father, which was also not far away. I often remember this time- they 2 gave me so much next to their friendship. Can t be thxful enough. Unfortunatley the 2 room closed in the end of the 90 s.
It s always hard to talk about billiards-buisness. Imo it s really hard here in germany to *earn* good money with a pool-hall. you can just do it with hobby-players who re playing for fun. With a guy who want to practice seriously you won t earn much money :) He doesn t drink much. And further he *blocks* the table for hours, LOL.
so i really can understand the pool-room-owners who re not able to give huge percentages/boni for playing in their pool-rooms to *serious players*. Better having 4-5 kids or hobby players on 1 table instead of serious, practicing pool-players :)

Before i m falling more into sentimental moments,

lg
Ingo
