How expensive of a Cue would you actually play with

I am curious as there are members on the message board who own what I will call a high dollar Cues. Do you actually play with your high dollar Cues, and if you answer yes. Do you limit your play with your high dollar Cues to home, private club, or take them to a bar or pool room to use in a tournament?

I have a one of a kind Tim Scruggs cue that is estimated to be worth about $3500 now. It goes with me where ever I can take it by having it right next to me. I play with it any place I can drive to. Never going to be taken on an airplane again until the homeland security boneheads let pool players take cues on the plane again. No baggage handler will ever get near that cue!

It may be awhile. 15-20 years ago, I carried my cue on the plane from Phx to LA, then LA to Montana. When I tried to carry it on at Montana airport to LA, I was stopped - they would not allow a cue on the plane -- it had to go in the cargo hold as luggage.
 
So whats the final say on taking cues on an airplane? they go in as luggage and not carry on??? and I would play with about a $1k cue...again if money wasnt the issue I would play with the most expensive out there that played the best, but if it plays well, why not?
 
the most expensive cue I ever played with for any period of time was a friends G Szam, its in Luckys collection now-It was worth 20K then and over $100,000 now, i played with it for 30 minutes to an hour-it was along time ago 1986, man that cue played good, I was sold on Szams then, but didnt have the $$$ to buy one-I fixed that problem.

They let snakes on a plane, but not cues.

Has to be checked.
 
I have a Samsara that I play with in certain places...

But in Bars and Pool rooms I usually play with my McDermotts ($800.00 and 1,400) The Samsara is over $3,000 I don't want folks banging their Cues into it and or picking it up by "mistake" :rolleyes:
 
I play with all of my Dieckman's Cues -whether home, billiard rooms, or in a bar. Cues are built to be play with. Just as a car meant to be driven.
 
I don't go to bars. I'll use my Schick worth 7k or my Bender worth 5k in pool halls without a problem, the problem comes when someone picks up my cue off the table next to me and says "Oh, I thought it was a house cue" wrong!!

I broke with bignasty's bender last night. :eek: That'll teach him to leave that laying around after I've had a couple. (sorry chad) :)

Mr. Lucky if I own a Ferrari, for off road I would pull out my Hummer.

When a Cuemaker build me a cue, It a honor to play with it no matter what the cost.
 
I used to play with a $5500 cue. No one takes better care of their equipment than I...but I still managed to ding the buttsleeve.:rolleyes: I was more stressed about the cue than focusing on my game. Now I just play with one of my little raced up hustler cues no matter where I play. And honestly...I've never hit a single ball & wished I had that $5500 cue back!;)

I played for a few minutes with a $100,000 cue and I wasn't all that comfortable with it, especially since it wasn't mine. I am comfortable playing with someone elses $5000 cue or my own $25,000 cue.
 
I have owned some very nice custom cues and have never hesitated to take them anywhere I play. Including bar league pool. I buy em to shoot with, not just admire. JMHO!

Just one of my simple 4pt rosewood hustlers. With the forearm cored with ABS and the 3/8-10 set into the ABS, cut under the points with weight added to create a forward balance, mp ivory collars, old 314 (also cored on both ends), Grice ferrule, Sniper tip.:)

Very, very interesting. What does it weigh? When you say "old 314 (also cored on both ends), isn't the 314 cored at the front already? Do you make it "hollower"? Why would you core it at the back end? How does it play?
