How good of a deal is this Diamond Professional table?

I found a used 9' Diamond Professional with matching light, see seller's pic below. 5 years old, red badge, Mahogany wood, 3-piece slate, Simonis 860HR, pro-cut pockets, Dymondwood rails, excellent condition.

He's asking $5,000 for package.

Questions:

1. I thought Dymondwood rails would have the angular corners, not the smooth corners as shown in the pics. Am I right about that, and these are actually Mahogany rail tops?

2. The red badge tables are the "old" profile rails, right, and will bank shorter than the newer blue badge tables? Is this a "big deal" to folks, and will I likely be needing to upgrade to the newer rails?

What could I expect to pay for a new or tourny-used Diamond pro with matching light if I order direct? $5K doesn't sound like a huge discount from new to me. Also, I kinda had my heart set on a 1-piece slate, as this is going into a ground floor room with easy access.

I'm in the SF Bay area... if anyone has a lead on any Diamond tables or upcoming tourneys near me where I could buy a table, I'd appreciate hearing from you.

I live in Pittsburg ca. I have a Brunswick gold crown 2 with the diamond Artemis rails cut @ 4.25". It has the old diamond light and diamond rack. I am willing to sell it for 4k as a package. Many pics avail Jesse 925.330.3429

call Diamond

It's not a bad deal if everything is truly in good condition. To compare to what you can get new or tournament used just call Diamond directly. You will get the info you are looking for. You can ask for Aaron. My experience with them has been stellar.

I say it looks like a pretty good deal. But some further investigation would certainly be necessary.

You asked about tourney used tables....One of my friends bought one after our BCA tourney in vegas for $4,000 with light.....Another friend bought 4 tables, no light $3700.00 each...These were Diamond tables...Ones used at the tourney and taken home from Vegas...

AT $5000.....A Good Deal For The Seller

At $5k, it's an okay deal for you but it's a very good deal for the seller. Don't be lured by the inclusion of the light which adds value but not as much as you might otherwise think.

Diamond tables are on the Forum pretty often and $3200 -$3500 will get you most of the tables and the ones from the shows are available for a lot less. Now if you can get the deal for what the fellow with the Brunswick offered, that's a good deal for you. But keep in mind you already have a bird in the hand with his offer so don't dismiss his package too soon, unless you set on getting a Diamond table.

Some things to ponder are the condition of the cloth....which one has the best color/condition Simonis cloth and then there's distance. How far away, i.e., any shipping involved? Don't even worry about the type/condition of pool balls that comes with the table. Just plan on getting a new set of Centennials......I bought my set of new Centennial pool balls from Hookmehorns less than two mths ago on the Forum for $175 shipped.

Lastly, always go with your gut no matter what the price.....too high or too low....it doesn't matter........just trust your gut instincts on which table/combo to get after duly considering all your options.

Thanks for the feedback, everyone! Still curious if those are actually Dymondwood rails like the seller claims, since it has the curved corner caps.

If I recall, when they first started using dymondwood rails, they were still using real hardwood corner caps, hence the curve.

The images look like dymondwood rails with oak corner caps.

For 5K or in that range, I would call Diamond and get the newest model tourney tables. You would have to add what 800-1000 for someone to move and set it up (new cloth etc...) as well. Unless you are doing it...

Those do look like dymondwood rails, though they do probably have hardwood end caps as previously mentioned in this thread.

As to the red label vs. blue label, personally it is no big deal to me. I've played on both, but I own a 7 year old Diamond 9' pro red label table. I love it.

As for price, I am not sure what availability is in your area, but, at least for me, $5,000 would be too much to pique my interest in a used deal. I picked mine up for $3100 with no light, but it came with the embroidered cover and a set of Aramith Super Pro balls. I felt like I got a fair deal then, and given how much enjoyment I've gotten out of the table for the last 5 years, I know I got my money's worth.

Bottom line, as stated, follow your gut (and your budget). If you're patient, I feel like you can find a lower priced table of comprable quality.

Yes, if that red-label table has not had its rails recalibrated, it will bank shorter than the tables Diamond is selling currently. So if you compete outside your home on Gold Crowns or on newer Diamonds, it's better to have your practice table bank similarly. Having the rails on an older Diamond recalibrated in your home, or sending them out to be done, is not inexpensive.

I have a 9' Diamond Professional table I purchased new in 2001 with the Dymondwood rails and the red label (for sale actually). It has the rounded corners.

I tried adding pictures, but it looks like I need to post a total of 5 times first. Let me know if you want to see the pictures.

-the diamond professionals have the rounded corners.
-the diamond pro am have the angular corners.

the best deal i saw for a diamond pro am 1 piece slate with light was $2400 out of Louisiana a few years back on craigslist. they guy couldn't sell it for weeks and finally cut his losses.

$3K - $3,500 is about right.

...Because he is wrong, I think. I talked to Diamond and they now make both the Pro-Am and the Professional tables with angled corners in Dymondwood. They will still make the Professional table with rounded corners on request if you special order it, but only if the rails are oak or some other real wood and not Dymondwood.

My Diamond Professional was purchased from Diamond in 2005 and has the angled corners. The wood is Oak, with the Dymondwood finish.

To the OP (or just for reference), my table just sold for $3200, with a TON of extras. I wish I could have sold it for $5000.
