How high is your pool table?

I recently got a 9 ft and despite everything being in order I just felt it wasn't playing right. I measured and it is at least 5 inches shorter than the ones at the pool hall I play at. Being tall it definitely makes me get down to shoot. So I started measuring and different pool halls are all over the place with how high their tables are. What would you consider a "standard" height?

Looks like your playing surface is around 31-32"?

I would have to measure mines later.

WPA regulation states pool table bed height of 29.25" - 31"

Will measure mine tomorrow. I think they should run about 30".
The pool hall you play at .... the leg adjusters might be at a max

Your playing surface should be 30" off the ground. Anything up to 31" is acceptable. Only in Japan have I seen tables at 29" due to the short stature of most players there. For comparison the playing surface of a full size snooker table is typically 32", noticeably higher than a pool table. Interestingly a typical dining room table is usually around 30" high as well. I think there is a reason for this relationship dating back to the very early days of billiards. It's nice because you can practice your stroke on your dining room table.

Not until the WPA put out its 'standards' has there been any standards on tables
except a 'regulation' table length has to be double its width.
Brunswick 'recommends that a gold crown should be 30 in to the top of the
slate or 31 in to the rail.
Other tables are made at different heights. Gandys were made at 28 in to the rail
on Big G's in the 60's & 70's. No adj legs. Had to shim the tables to level them.
Old victors were made at 33 in to top rail. Pool rooms can do what they want
they want with them. GC's can be adj as low as 28 in to top rail . Many rooms
have tables from 28-33 in in the same room.
Don't know what brand you have, but you can adj the leg levelers ( if available )
or shim them to the height you want.
Good Luck

5" lower? You might be missing the leg levelers... what kind of table is it? Any pics?

I saw your picture with the pool stick leaning against the table. It's very difficult to tell anything by that. You can often snake a tape measure through the pocket area to the floor and measure the slate height directly.

I can't imagine a table 5" shorter. I thibk either you are mistaken about your measurement, or the table is missing parts.

The tape measure directly to the slate will settle it.

The 30" height (with a tolerance) standard has been part of the Billiard Congree of America written equipment standard for decades and decades. The WPA just took the BCA rules and regulations as the standards. Whether a table manufacturer followed them is a different story.

The BCA is part of the committee/group to continue the modifications of rules and regs of the WPA world standardized rules.

My reply from yesterday disappeared into the ether, but I mentioned that some Canadian-made tables (like the old Dufferin tables) are made higher than the BCA/WPA specs - I believe they are at or about the height of snooker tables, reflecting the early dominance of that game in Canada. The height difference is noticeable going from the Dufferin Challenger tables I play on at one place to the Diamonds at another. It is not 5", but it is probably 2 or 3".
