How long before you switch cues?

Everyone on here always says there's that adjustment period to get past. My problem is even after 4 months with a good 8-10 hours a week of playing time it just still doesn't feel natural. I guess I'm really just answering my own question here......

:shakehead:

I told you a long time ago...you can only believe 30% of the comments on this forum.

If the cue isn't right when you first test drive it...it's not the one.:slap:

After more than a year of regularly playing 10 or so hours a week, sometimes more, I'm starting to get comfortable with my cue on "feel" alone. Long spin shots used to be possible only using back-hand english as it was the only repeatable way of applying spin and compensating for the deflection. I've finally got the feel of the cues' deflection down well enough that I just instinctively adjust for it when aiming. My ability, the equipment change from a Meucci black dot to a custom, and finally my habit of second guessing my instinct all probably contributed to a longer than normal adjustment period. I will avoid switching cues again like the plague!

Been playing with this one for the past 2 years and I have no plans on changing. Before that I would switch between cues every 6 months about. Anything shorter than that I and I feel like I am constantly adjusting.

Its funny actually because when I changed cues, I wasn't actually looking for a new cue.
I first started with a cuetec back in january 2006 and I was also playing with a glove. I didnt really know anything about cues back then and one day a cue told me to try this falcon cue and I immediately fell in love with it. I ditched the glove the same night.

Fast forward a few years later and as I was reading about a lot of people playing with custom cues I started looking to see if we even had cuemakers in my area just to see what was the difference. Some people in the know told me about the cuemakers we have around here and another player had one for sell so I decided to give it a try....wow ! Eventhough that cue wasnt specifically built for me since I bought it off someone else, that cue just spoke to me.

I broke the butt two-three years ago when it fell on concrete in an arena during a tournament. The shaft remained intact so I had a new butt made for me.

Been playing with EB cues for many years and I can't imagine myself playing with something else.

I think it helps,if I have the same tip I'm use to playing with installed
on the new shaft/cue..

Way too subjective

The way I decide is very simple,if I get beat for a sizable amount
then I know that my cue is dogging it.Its time to change cues.

You can not fall in love with the equipment,if your cue loses ,its got to go.

I can totally relate to this
I keep switching shafts between my two cues.

The more I play with thinner shafts the better I am playing with a 13mm shaft now.

Odd.

Test drove my first Hearn's Widowmaker and liked it. Bought another because it had great looking points. Had another one built to my specs that same year. It has been my player for over ten years and I'm basically married to it. No interest in changing whatsoever. Buying cues isn't my passion; playing pool is.

I started out with a Meucci and played about 2 months with it. Not long before I sold it and bought another one. ( Hence.. Have you ever snapped a cue thread) bought a Mali and kept it for a few years. After that I bought a Joss and a Heubler. I kept these cues for about 7 years until our poolroom burnt down with them in it. I traded cues every few months after that until I bought my predator in 04 or 05. I played with it until the end of last year when I bought my DP
I know this is long but that's the best I can answer it

Looking for a cue

is like looking for a wife, once you find the 'right one' you will stop looking.

LOL, but then again after 20 years with a cue, you get to thinking like a 50's married guy, and think that a 20 something girl would be much more exciting and new, hence you go looking for a new cue again ...
