How long did it take to get your first Break and run in 9 ball?

It's funny that I can remember my 1st B&R in 6 ball on a 9' table back in the mid 1950's but can't remember my 1st 9 or 10 ball B&R's. Most likely in the mid to late 50's for 9 ball and 1990's for 10 ball. Johnnyt

That is a lot of pool playing years. Even in my short 5-6 year span of playing pool (actually about 2ish years of total playing), I can not remember my first break and run.

My long term memory is pretty good, it's the short term one I worry about. :frown:. Johnnyt

I have been playing off and on for almost 2 years now. I still have not gotten a break and run in 9 ball. I can break and run to the 8 ball a few times a week. I average running to the 4 or 5. I have never pulled it off in 8 ball either. I have come to the table after my opponent had a dry break and run out in 8 ball. I think it is in my head. I find it very frustrating. I have a table at the house I play on must of the time. It is a bar box with shimmed pockets. The corners are 4 1/4 and the sides are 4 3/4.

about a week. why is it taking you longer? some guys just learn slower.

8 ball has more options so running the Table should come sooner then 9 ball.(for anyone)
Playing 9 ball, your forced to shoot one certain ball at the same time playing shape for the next ball.

9ball -probably less then a year after learning to play.
8ball -probably a few months.

Here's the deal!
Its very tough to run out playing center cb all the time. You must learn to go outside center cb ...why? Its what the next shot needs.(sometimes) When you are a center ball shooter you will always run into shots you just dont know how to hit. ,,,what are they ????outside center shots... learn them and you'll stop killing your runs.

I've played a ton of pool and the number one thing beside the stroke that always stop my runs was exactly this. I guessed wrong on the shot because i didnt know how to adjust.

9 years... I started playing at 10 in the grandparent's basement. Pool and Billy Joel Glass houses consumed my weekends but I was 12 when the album came out.. Before then it was cream or whatever album was in the basement with the coolest looking cover =)

At 13 my dad moved his garage and Gordon's pool hall was across the street which became my after school haven for a few years. He payed Gordon $5 a week to open a table for me after school everyday until I got picked up by mom at 5:30....

I got my wheels and started spending everyday at the poolroom on the other side of town but I never played 9-ball until I was 19 and had moved to a new city with 9ft and 8over tables.... By then I could run out 8-ball on bar boxes like water...

The first tournament I played in was 9-ball and I was getting spotted but the local guy didn't like it because I actually ran out off his dry break and then I ran the rack right after on my break... I seriously had never played 9-ball until that tournament.... I lost 7-5 in the semi's..

I miss Stoetzel... We became friends from that tournament on and he passed away from bad decisions almost a decade ago....

Chris
