How long should I wait for eBay money?

How long do you wait for a money order/cashiers check on a item (cue) sold on eBay. They sent a message the day they won the auction saying they were going out of town for 1-2 days. They wanted a address to send payment because their paypal was "screwed up". I have not received anything let alone heard from them. I keep sending messages with no response. I have someone else that was bidding that wants to buy it; so how long do I wait? It has been since last Sunday without a response, and I could use the money.

PS: isn't funney I have the patience to individually color the letters in eBay, but don't have the patience to wait for money....LOL

They made contact with you and said they will be paying in a few days. Even if they put the payment in the mail the day after the auction you may not have it yet. There could be a lot of innocent reasons why they have not answered your emails, you have to just wait. You could also get the contact information and give them a call but I still think it is much too soon. I just looked up your auction, give them a break the auction only ended last Sunday and they did send you an email right after the auction and have 100% feed back. With only 3 feedbacks yourself you are lucky you got such good bids, you look more shakey then they do.

No message today, sell it to the other guy and say "sorry." Did your ebay sale page have a time limit on payment?

Not important but would be easier to explain.

10 days after the auction closes is a reasonable amount of time. I would give more time if there was decent communication in progress.

Not sure how far you two are apart. But I get payments sent to me from the west coast to Georgia and it takes about 1 week just for the mail to get it here a lot of the time. So they asked for a couple of days to send it. Then it could take several days from that to arrive. Be patient.

You could do whatever you want, of course, but I would give 3-4 weeks of no contact/ no$ before leaving the winner behind. With further contact, I'd think you give him a maximum of 6wks to have $ to you.

YOu should definitely tell him in your email, "if I do not receive payment by _/_/2006, I will consider or transaction void.

You might get negative feedback if you do not live up to your end of the deal.

I was in fear of negative feedback too, but I don't have a message saying that I am waiting for feedback. I assume that when I get a payment recieved I they will have that option. I have not done a lot of eBay transactions, "4" to be exact not including this one and the other cue I sold. So I can't afford any negativity. But you'd wait 6 weeks without contact, that's crazy talk they should know that you can get in contact through any outside computer (like me at work right now) If the payment was in the mail I would think I'd get a comformation from them!

When

a bidder wins an auction, that is a form of a contract with the seller. If you have strict guidelines for payment, including a designated time frame for payment to be received you should state it in the auction, otherwise normal
established payment guidelines determined by Ebay apply. I would think that
a week would suffice in most usual cases at the most, 3 days if paying by credit card or Paypal.

I doubt their lives revolve around this ebay transaction and they live and die with it. They said they would put the check in the mail in a couple of days and the earliest it was sent was probably Tuesday. How fast do you think it will get to you, over night? You may get it today or maybe Monday maybe longer what difference does it make. They have a 100% feed back and quite a few transactions, I am sure there is no problem with them paying you, you'll get paid. Sorry for being blunt but I sell a lot of stuff on ebay and every once and a while I run into a guy like you and it can be annoying. Relax and wait for your money, it will come.

I had one guy from Sturges SD buy something and after a week I start getting daily insulting emails asking where his purchase is. I sent it the day after the auction ended. I got his contact info and called. The guy who answered the phone said the buyer was his brother and he lived in the middle of no where and in the dead of winter, like it was now, sometimes didn't get mail delivered for a week. He said to just ignore the emails his brother was nuts. Sure enough I get a negative feed back saying it took a month, (I doubt that's was true) for the item to be delivered. Some people can really take the fun out of ebay, you never know what kind of person you are dealing with.

I have been selling (and buying) on eBay for about one year. I have had few, if any, problems with buyers, although someone did try to scam me on a couple of high end cues. That's another story. Our man Tate bailed me out.

Typically, after an auction ends, payment is discussed within a day or two.
Whether it be by PayPal or bank check or ?. Usually, with only one exception (when I sold a car) I have received payment within days. I do not ship merchandise until I am satisfied with the payment. Period. That is the sellers best protection.

If I did not receive payment in the agreed time frame, I would inquire once more of the buyer and give them a second chance. Following that, I would consider either contacting the second high bidder or making a second chance offer.

As someone else said on here, you can tell a lot by checking the buyers feedback to see how good (or bad) they are.

I have over 200 sales and here is what I do. I wait 10 days and then I send a follow up e-mail. A friendly reminder that I have not received payment and to let me know if they still want the item. And that I will leave appropriate feedback. So far I have been fortunate in that I only had to send this about 6 times and then received payment. But if after my followup e-mail I get no response then I would be committed to notify Ebay of non-payment by the buyer. Then they would contact the buyer and if they could not settle it they would release me from my contract.

Good luck.

I think anything more than a week is pathetic. It shouldnt take more than a week for coast to coast mail at first class. I dont sell on ebay but i pay by USPS money order when i buy stuff off of ebay. I go to the post office the same day auction ends or if its too late then i go the following day unless its sunday. If someone has the intention to buy something and pay via money order, they should be prepared to pay at that time. Still even if they are out of town there are post offices in every town so the person should still be able to get the MO to you. If the person keeps in contect then give em 2 weeks. Anymore or if there is no contact i would report a non-paying bidder.

The auction ended on Sunday and today is Friday and this guy is *****ing already because he doesn't have the money in his hand yet. Give me a break.

If It goes 7 days with no contact or satifaction that the money is truely on the way and you have sent invoice at least twice with no responce, you should go ahead and file the unpaid item claim. They then have 7 days before you can file to recieve your final value fee back and a free relist. It is then up to them to respond or recieve a unpaid item strike. DON"T wait 6 weeks you would than have no right to that option.

Tell ya what's crazy: you took the time to red it up, but not to read what I wrote?

Sorry if I did a little para-phrasing, but I am at work going back and forth.

I also forgot, in their message that same night they said they were going to next day the payment!

Hey, I've been waiting for over 2 months for a buyer to pay, or cover my ebay fees. He may even read this. :p
