How many 14's does it take to get to 100??

Still in my quest for 100..........As I refer to it as "CENTURYQUEST". I was wondering how many times you have ran 14's and missed the first break ball?

I seem to do it quite often until I get comfortable, at that point it just depends on the day. I am regularly in low 40's or 50's a few times a week............with, what seems to be a million 20 somethings in there.

Getting over that 4th rack hump has been a huge sticking point in my game. I tend to think waaaaaaay to much about it when I get close. I have only passed it three or four times in the last year, my high being 69.

Just curious to see how many other players struggle with the same thing.

Thanks,
Mike

What works best for me is to walk away in between racks, wipe off shaft/hands take a drink of water then return to table and look at your break-shot, fire it in and continue.

not that i run high numbers all the time, but since i started doing this it seems more frequent.

it is my firm belief that doing this allows you to dismiss the previous rack and clear your head to allow for the upcomming rack to be the only thing in your head. in other words, your brain gets full and you have to empty it out from time to time.

Give it a try & Good Luck

Don´t think to much, try to stay calm. i know it is easier said then done and it took me years but it seems like i got over it when i ran my 2nd 100+ which was also my new high run of 141 a year ago. since then i ran 82,86,79,79,72,99,106 as far as i can remember. The runs come more often and i don´t get nervous anymore when i reach like 60 or 70. Then i just think what i said in the beginning and that helps me a lot. Some may never reach 100 but you say you have 40´s and 50´s every week so i would say it will come sooner or later.

Steve: That is good advise I am going to try that. I actually did that while on the snooker the table practicing "line-up" and it got me to my first 100 there.

sascha: I know easier said than done right? It is funny I will live in 20 land for an hour or more, and then hit a 50, then realize where I am and puke on an easy one. A friend of mine told me to track my progress, and log it. Which I have. He lso said things will happen in 10's............which they have as well. I seem to get more an more comfortable hitting a number once I have been there.

right, i was in the 20´s myself yesterday or even less. then took a short break for a cigarette and then hit a 79... sometimes that works, haha...

So here is a question, and I hope it doesn't sound foolish. How many 20's before the 79 yesterday? 10, 15 ???? Not that I think there is magic number, I just don't want frustartion to set in too early. And right now I think it has for me.

For example, Sunday I had 4 or 5 in the teens (with silly misses or getting locked in the stack) then 4 in the 20's and 37 was my high for a couple hours of practice. At that point I got a little frustarted and walked away.

Is it similar during your practice? Perhaps with higher numbers?

Mike

I Really think to you the "Number" is the only thing that counts, and that there is gonna hurt you in the long run. Just try to stay consistant, and focussed.

Focus on patterns and not numbers and before you know it you will be in the higher numbers without even thinking about it.

Good Luck

like i said, mostly i run some 20´s or 30´s and sometimes i get a good run. i don´t practice for hours, i play like 1 hour every day or every 2 days when i am alone, if i play with friends i play 9 ball mostly and sometimes 1 or 2 races to 100 straight pool. my goal is always to run out in at least 10 innings or better no matter what run i have.
i may have shot 5 runs in the 20´s before the 79...

I ususally don't miss the break ball but I often don't have a shot after the break. This is what usually ends my runs. I've had more 29 and 43 and 57 balls runs than I can count. In fact, of maybe my 10 highest runs, maybe 2 of them ended with a miss. The rest were do to either not having a shot after the break or scratching on the break. I guess I should work on breakshots, but I never do.

Each ball is important as the other one- no matter if u ran already 4 racks or just 1 rack- Just play each ball like it *has to be played*. If you re continously playing straight-pool the time will come where you will stop thinkin about your *run* (how far u already etc.) and just shoot your balls. Just countin racks even so helps some ppl instead of counting balls. I ended counting balls in any run- i play safties for example no matter if i am at a run of 10 or 40. If you re counting each ball you ll destroy your game and ll have bad problems gettin into playing with confidence.

At least it s perfect if you just enjoy playin *your* game- i try to give an advice to new players or beginners: If you re at the table- nothin can happen except someone steals your cue :-) - it s always your table- so go and defend it^^

like always, sry for low english ^^

Runs

I'm with Ratta - I don't count balls anymore. I keep track of racks. I was given this advice by a 300+ ball runner and it helps a lot. When you get up near your personal best, part of your mind gets consumed by the gravity of the situation and you aren't able to focus 100% on what you're doing. Taking a quick break between racks helps as well, to clear your head and cool off a little.
