How many balls have you pocketed?

At 200 and hour you shooting a shot every 18 seconds. That is Jayson Shaw speed.
That's not that fast for a simple drill where you are just executing but there is no decision making. Something like the Mighty X. A while back, it took me 40 minutes to make 100 shots and that includes missing quite a few. I've gotten better.

Improving your skills and developing a higher level of consistency doesn't really require hitting a million balls. It requires successful repetition of hitting a few thousand balls correctly, again and again and again.
That's something I've been thinking about. I think it's good to keep the arm moving to develop a smooth stroke but you can also be building the habit of neglecting your pre shot routine as well as becoming so accustomed to shooting fast that waiting for an opponent can throw you off your game. We want to get more out of our practice time but we must ask ourselves if the right more to improve our game.

I wasted so much time not actually practicing. I thought I was practicing. Without precise goals outlined before the session, trying to get the most out of each rep, including every step of the psr, staying disciplined. It's all just banging balls and building piss poor habits. I still do those things ..just stopped calling it practice. There's no hope.

The only time I ever think about how many balls I put in was the time I made six balls on a break. I really crunched um that time.
Heck, a couple days ago I made 4 balls on the break in 9B. All balls were laid out nicely. I missed the first ball in sequence by a half an inch. 😡🤬
 :ROFLMAO:

I have no idea how many balls I've pocketed but it's not enough!

Did some cyphering back when people were talking about HAMB. I was more than a little obsessed for over a decade and almost lived on a pool table if not at work. After careful cyphering and adding in a SWAG, I have pocketed 2,xxx,xxx and five-eighth balls. Split one but I argued successfully that the bigger part of the ball went in the pocket intended! Another SWAG, I probably played over sixty percent of my games on bar tables, resulting in less wasted motion and easier shots.

When you are running balls efficiently it really doesn't take long. From what I have read Willie Mosconi pocketed a ball an average of every fifteen seconds during his record run. That includes time lost to racking every fourteen balls. Willie didn't seem to shoot terribly fast but he spent little time in planning and very little moving around the table. Willie played a close tight game with little wasted motion.

Yes, Willie's autobiography says the 526 took 2 hours and 10 minutes, which is slightly under 15 seconds per ball.

Shaw said his 714 took 2 hours and 39 minutes, which would be an average of 13.4 seconds per ball! The rack Bob mentioned in post #13 would be about 8.6 seconds per ball!

Just thinking about another tread and Aiming systems about feel. The method of Hit A Million Balls has come up a lot.

It has me wondering how many balls have I actually pocketed in my life?

I mean I just don't want to saw a million balls that just pointless.

I've been playing again for about 6 months. I'm probably pocketing about 300 balls a day on average. Which is about nothing, versus me being in a pool hall for 12 hours a day in my twenties. In the last few months I've probably pocketed 54k balls
How many shots have you missed? What is your percentage of shots made? How many times have you miscued? How many straight-in’s have you made?Missed? I think a comprehensive study of your game is just as meaningful as how many balls have you made?

75 years... WOW... Lots... Guy , One thing is after 75 years, Past Tense, lots of people will tell you how to do it... This is Pool...

This week I sank more putts than balls. By the time I made it to Griffs I couldn't shoot straight to save my life. I can't imagine actually living in Vegas, I'd be even more useless if that possible.
I think in the last 20 years I've watched a million pool games... Guy, Don't ask me why I posted this here...

lou butera easily passed three million balls. yet a guy who plays one pocket every day might not pocket 300 balls a week.

but the one pocket guy can pass half a million balls in his lifetime with no sweat.

.....
The bigger question is how many balls have I missed?

If you're a decent player, you've made more balls than you've missed.

For players who work on their game and strive to improve, there comes a point in time when the percentage of successful shots surpasses the percentage of missed shots.

For casual/recreational players that don't work on their game, they'll seldom reach that point. They will likely continue to miss more shots than they make. As a result, their game will never improve much beyond whatever skill level they happen to reach.

But for players that continue to work and improve, they'll eventually end up hitting more successful shots than unsuccessful shots over the long run.

In other words, a beginner might start out missing 9 shots out of 10. Then eventually he'll be missing 7 out of 10. Then it'll be 5 out of 10 (50%). Then the ratio flips and he starts making more shots than he's missing. He'll find himself missing 4 out of 10, then missing only 2 or 3 out of 10, and then eventually 1 out of 10 (90%), and so on...

Consistency brings more makes than misses. Eventually the total of all your successful shots will exceed the total of all the missed shots you've ever had, unless you're a real slow starter/learner. 😆
