Here is my nickel's worth....I have been playing pool since 1963 (how long is that...makes my back hurt). I have been a collector for 10 or so years (only a worshipper from afar until then) and a dealer for close to the same. I have owned a TON of cues and know a lot about very few of them, honestly. I know what I like, but am ALWAYS amazed at the wealth of knowledge here on line and at the shows. As an example, I bought a great Verl Horn cue a few years ago and proudly showed it to my acquaintenances at the Super Billiards Expo. Scott Murphy, one of the TRUE pros in the field, looked at it for about 3 minutes and figured something was wrong....forearm didn't add up. A hasty assembly of some of the other experts agreed. Appears I was had. If I had not shown it to Scott, I would never have known the difference. It is like you guys said, there are a lot of true experts out there.....just being a "collector" (or a dealer) might not be enough.
