How many different cue-tip positins on a cue ball?

Shere vs Cylinder

Pinocchio,

You cannot compare a Sphere to a Cylinder. The issue is the radius not diameter. In a sphere the radius is half of the diameter, always. In a cylinder, the tip radius can be entirely different than the diameter. A 9mm and a 13mm tip can both have a nickel shaped curve to them, approx 8mm radius. Which, in this case, there would be the same amount of contact between the tip and cue ball.

Shakes was correct with his description of the steel rods and radius'.

On the other hand, a different tip radius would slightly change the amount of contact between the tip and the CB. For example, a flat tip would have much greater contact than a small radius such as 3mm or so.
