How many good pool players are their in your home pool hall? Name some?

Are you suggesting that 8-ball lacks the sophistication and/or respectability to be played by good players?

Incognito,
Eight ball and League play! That is the only way and time I see 8 ball being played is when league players are playing or new comers are learning to play pool. I played some 8 ball last pocket on the road many years ago. Thanks for your input.

Perhaps my post was not clear!!! I said what I saw. Now how is that suggesting anything? People play whatever game they want to play. Good shooters or bad shooters! If 8 ball is your cup of tea so be it!

I used to have a thing against 8-ball too but have come to believe it’s a great game. It’s a hybrid of 9-ball, which emphasizes shotmaking, and straight pool, which emphasizes patterns. And you have to maneuver around all that traffic. It may be the only game where a low-ranked player has a chance against a high-ranked player. I’ve seen high-ranked players, BCA A or A+, shoot (themselves in the foot) by committing 8-ball’s cardinal sin – making 6 or 7 balls and not getting out. Somebody of moderate skill can get out when they’re left with an open table.

I did not say I had anything against 8 ball. If you shoot pool good you can play most pool games! One Pocket may be the exception. How many people have you seen playing 8 ball for $5000.00 a game or set? Thanks.

You sounded a little dismissive of 8-ball but it might be an Internet thing. No worries.

Oh,
I am not worried at all. I play 8 ball real good. As a matter of fact in Atlanta, Georgia, I gave 7 balls off to my opponents playing 8 ball. I break and take their 7 balls off and they are shooting on the 8 when they shoot, if they shoot! He, He, He. It was not nice. Thanks again for your input.

Sounds like you have some real suckers where you play. That is probably the oldest trap in the history of pool.

" I'll tell you what I'll do for you Jethro...If you let me break, I'll let you take all your balls off the table after the break so alls you gotta do is make the 8 ball"....

"Duh...OK....How can I lose at that game, Cletus?"

Hey Charles,
You cannot let them take their balls off. You the breaker has to take their balls off. If you let them take the balls off they will win. Because they are going to take balls off to free the 8 ball up!!! Come on now! They are not suckers either, they are clients of an 8 ball match up! You are not making them play either, remember that! You only make the offer for the match. What do you think of the orange crush, 5 and the break playing 9 ball. They can get that too!
Thanks.

You're right...

Hey Jaden,
You are not knocking anyone's action. It is hard to sand bag playing pool these days. Now you tell me how you are knocking anyone's action and how this is a action knocking thread. I never even thought of anything like that!!! I do not care how a person plays, if I want to play them I will. It is as simple as that! Thanks for your post.

It is really hard to be able to sand bag playing pool these days...I'm not even saying that it is a good thing to sand bag.

I know that with my home room, most of the players don't really travel around that much so it would difficult for anyone to get a bead on them and I don't want to be the one to out them for any potential road players coming through.

I actually got a pm from someone who automatically knew what room I was talking about and knew three of the guys there that play the best, but for all I know that person ALSO plays out of my room.

I know even though I don't gamble on pool much, when I traveled a lot I would get people taking my picture on their cell phone and sending it around to find out who I was.

So don't get me wrong, I was just joking about the "action knocking thread" thing... I just don't want to step on anyone's toes in case they have the impression that they can still hide their game..

Wish I had a home room but there is nothing that could remotely qualify for a significant distance.

Hey Jaden,
I thank you for the clear up thing! I realize you were not knocking my thread! Thanks for that too. You are right about everywhere you go out of town they find out who you are in a heart beat..... I had a guy ask me to play a couple of cheap sets out of town and when I come back with a house cue to play him he shows me an I-phone with do not play him under any conditions whatsoever, I said man you asked me to play. Yes I know but I did not know who you were! I did not expect him to play even anyway!!! Thanks again Jaden.

1st of all....If all 7 of their balls are coming off, what difference does it make who removes them?

2ndly....If you get to break and take even 6 of their balls off and leave the one closest to the 8 ball...you still should be getting out more often than not, even on a big table...if its a bar box, I would love my chances in that game.

If I take my 7 balls off after the guy giving the spot breaks I will leave the 8 open to be made easy, that is the difference! Thanks for your input.

i do not think it should matter which 7 are taken off the table.

the way i see it is you got 7 shots to break that 8 out. if you cant do it you should not be giving that spot.

The bottom line here is that anyone who plays a decent game of 8-ball knows that taking all of your opponents balls off the table is a sucker bet. If you can't run you balls out from there and win you can't play dead.

In my Community Room we have ZERO GOOD PLAYERS.

IMHO if you are not playing at Pro Level, and Winning ENOUGH TO MAKE A LIVIBG OFF!

You are a Receational Player.

Two of out local Went the the BCAPL thing this week in Sin City.

Player "A" WAS 2 and out

Player "B" Won his first Match, and then was Two & Out.
