If you are having a custom cue made as your intended daily player or acquire a cue you like and intend to use as such,how mant shafts do you have made?With proper care is 2 plenty?

Babe Cranfield would disagree. If memory serves, so would Willie Mosconi. Tony Annigoni had more than two with his SouthWest. Earl carries, or used to carry, several shafts. Quite a few players have more than two, several of my acquaintance.
I've only ever ordered two, myself.
Personally, two is all I ever have in the case, and I've never needed more, although my BB came with 3.
Personally I think 2 is 'enough'.
However , if I'm having a scratch built cue made , I'll often go 3.
Especially if there's any ring work or anything that might make the shafts unique in any way. I just feel safer that way should one warp or something really unexpected happen.
Now on a low to mid level 'player' w/ basically stock shafts , 2 is fine as a replacement should not be anything difficult to track down after the fact.

I've been thinking about this quite a bit lately. I was away from the game for 20+ years and adjustment to Simonis cloth has been a struggle, to say nothing about finding what little stroke I ever had 
. I sent my old Josswest back to be refinished, and Bill Stroud recommended a modern type laminated shaft(no particular brand) for play on Simonis cloth(his standard shafts are $350 each 
). In the meanwhile, I ordered another new cue with two shafts, and bought a Lucasi with their original shaft and eventually a Predator 314 for that cue and others with a radial pin. After some careful testing with the Lucasi shaft, I decided that it squirts a bit too much for my tastes. The new Predator is much better ! I'd also like to try a Universal Smart Shaft for my old Josswest. It's original shafts are worn out.
So, will I like the shafts the custom cuemaker provides with my new cue, or am I better off with the Predator for everything ? So far, I play the best with it even though I frankly don't like the taper or the feel. It's sort of a dilemma. No matter who makes your shafts, if you are going to mainly play on Simonis cloth, aren't you better off with one or more Predator type/low deflection shafts ? Inquiring minds want to know...Tom

Get extra rings
When you order the cue, ask for (or buy if they're fancy) enough extra joint ring material to do a few shafts. This way you can have always have new shafts made later. I got enough for 4 for my custom cue. It is cheap insurance and the new shafts will match perfectly.
