How many tournaments have you won?

I was playing in a bar tournament the other day (a few months ago) and I won. A guy there who was watching the tournament asked me if it was the first tournament I'd ever won.
me: no
him: How many have you won?
me: I don't have any idea?
him: (incredulous) You don't have any idea?
me: nope.
him: like 10.
me: nope, more like hundreds, but I don't have any idea.
him: Hundreds? How could you win hundreds?

Until he asked me, it had never occurred to me to wonder how many. I don't think it means anything other than that I've played in even more hundreds.

Being in the winner's circle so many times adds a lot of confidence and cuts down on nerves, but it's not like I was beating pro players in the vast majority of them.

So, I would like to know if anybody else ever thought about this and how many tournaments everybody has won.

Also, do you think # of tournaments won (regardless of competition) means anything?

Hmm.. Never really thought about it. It's in the 30-40 range for me, only because my playing time got limited by marriage almost as soon as I got started. I probably only played seriously before marriage for about 2 years. One year spent building up my skill to a level where winning bar tournaments was fairly regular.

I spent my whole first year playing against one of the best players in South Korea, so there wasn't ANY opportunity to win a tourney in my first year.

I think at an amateur level, it DOES matter, insomuch that the more you win, the more it speaks about how willing your are to seek out the tougher competition.

As far as how well you perform given how many tournaments you play.. Well, it really does depend on how tough the competition is. If they are many levels below you, then no, the extra 200 tourneys won means nothing. I can win every tourney I play in if I play people who literally cannot run two balls. If I play with run out players and win consistently, THEN that means something.

what the previous poster responded has merit to me.....I remember when I first started playing in tournaments, it took me quite a while to win one....when I did win, I thought to myself "now I can die happy"....But as I played in more tournaments in different pool rooms, I was always happy to win, but we all know that winning a tournament involves being lucky too...After all, you don't play everybody, and if you are shooting well, it doesn't mean you will win.....by the same token, I've won a lot of matches in tournaments where I was shooting crappy.....so I guess what I'm saying is, no, I don't count how many tournaments I've won, but there are some which were rather meaningful to me, because, I did beat some good players, and the tournament was pretty good-sized, in terms of participants...
 
Haven't played in any tournaments bigger than 64 entry...haven't won any of the 64 full fields...Best I've done in the 45-50 person is 2nd and third and was happy with both of those and remember both of those. Small tournaments, especially in the bars, I've won a lot, one of them last year I was in the money for 8 weeks straight and ended up winning both finals and the,only thing it meant was a little more money each week in my pocket. Competition just isn't there by and large. I'm just maybe a high c player, and can win the bar tournaments consistently.

This is a funny post. Or, actually, I mean it's a really good thought provoking post. Me, I have zero idea how many tournaments I've won. I know it's not a hundred. I don't know if I've played a hundred tournaments.

I love winning tournaments as much as the next, but in general, I only remember certain tournaments, even if I don't win.

I picked the user name Dead Money because that is usually what I am at tournaments. I have finished in the $$ a few times at the weekly 9-ball tournament I usually play in though:)
 
I agree with all y'all

I don't think winning against 'weak' competition really proves anything, except that you are at least 1 rung above the bottom of the 'weak' ladder :D

In hindsight the tournaments look weak, but when I played them they weren't that weak because I was at that same level. The same tournaments that I consider 'weak' now are the same ones that I used to never win in when I first started playing them.

I think the only thing it shows is that I spent a lot of nights in bars and poolhalls.

But, I could see where someone who hasn't been down that path, like the guy in the bar could be astounded that someone could win that many.

Big tourney's about two or three, but tournaments they have at the youth center where i use to work at every friday i won LOL. Little ten dollar entry fee ones, about 30 ball parkish but nothing big. Leagues two times so far, hopefully going for a 3 peat this year.
 
To me ...

Anything less than 32 player tournaments should not count, and also a weekly tournament should not count. It should be a special tournament with at least 32 players to be worthy of an ole notch in the cue ... lol
 
I won a big $2000 added event, and drew most of the toughest players in the field, that was a couple years ago. I've won probably around 50ish small weekly tournaments for the last 9 years I've been playing. At the poolhall I frequent, I hold the record for most tournaments won, and most consecutive wins. I won it 4 weeks in a row as an 'A' ranked player, and when they bumped me to an 'A+' I havent won a tournament since. For some reason, when they moved me to an A+, my game fell off and I started playing horribly. After I lost in the first round like 5 weeks in a row, they moved me down to an 'A-' because I was in a slump. Again I caught a gear and won 2 in a row, so now they have me as an 'A' player. Sad thing is the tournaments died out over the summer, but hopefully they will start up again in the winter. We used to have pretty good turnouts too. If we got 32 players on the last Monday of the month, the house would add $500. I split 1st and 2nd with a guy on one of those tournaments.
 
I've played in only about 5 tournaments, all of them being weekly ones at a bar. In this coming year, I hope to enter larger tournaments just to give me some experience.

But my husband Bob has won countless numbers of tournaments, way to many to even count. We have endless boxes of useless door stops (trophies) as I call them. That reminds me to put them out at the next garage sale.
 
One pro event with the likes of Archer, Varner, Carter and the rest of the gang from the 80's 114 players. Plus a handful of McDermott Events and other smaller state events with 60 + players + second quite a few times. Allot of state & regional events.

No offense intended, but who would buy somebody else's trophies? What I did with the ones I won in pool tournaments was bring them back to the tournament director who also ran junior tournaments and told him to use them for the jr. tournaments.....

They went like hot cakes several years ago when we moved from our large house.. I have not idea why either, but they do!
