How much better could you get...

I think it is a great idea, and I'm betting you see big improvements. The only thing I would add is you train like an athlete.... set a schedule for training, then follow it. When you notice you begin losing concentration, take a 5 min break. But don't quit when you lose concentration.... keep going cause in real world situations, that is gonna happen as well, only now you will be ready for it when it does... fight through it.... Me too. Given our similar situations of work, league play and practice at the pool hall, I think we will be stuck at improving 1 level a year until we get to B.
 
If your fundamentals are solid I'd recommend practicing Bert Kinister's 60 minute workout. Though I imagine Bert would tell you your fundamentals are not solid and to spend the two months shooting table length stop shots.
 
My life is filled with free time to play pool. I practice alone a lot and the drills I do are necessary but I've found that playing buck a game with guys that shoot fast is the only way to keep me at the table for 6+ hours.

When I consistently have friends over my game reaches its highest level.

Just a tip if you start getting bored. If you can do drills/practice by yourself for that long then that would probably be better. Have fun.
 
Tonight will be Night 1. I'll post periodic updates as time goes on and see where the 60 days takes me. :-)
 
Worked on RandyG's (and other SPF instructors) Mother Drills for 3 hours yesterday, then continued working on my stroke with 150 table length stop shots, and finished up with table length cut shots with a hybrid aiming system I'm working on. I'm going to keep working on stroke improvement for the first couple weeks. This should give me a couple thousand repititions with the MD and table length stop shots, as well as fine tuning my aiming system. :)
 
Now I can't beat 4 ball ghost in a race to 7, I think in 60 days I could constantly beat it, and even make a 2-3 runouts with 9-ball rack.
 
I was out of town and took a few days off for the 4th....but so far, the answer is, not very...:frown:
 
Try not to get down on yourself. Try progressive drills rather then table length shots. Confidence comes from success.

You had mentioned the BU exams previously. Think about the fundamental portion.

Start your drills 1 or 2 diamonds away, then progress up or down.

It's difficult to stay focused and enthusiastic when you feel as though your failing personal goals or objectives.

Determine your current skill level ( don't lie to yourself ) possibly through the BU Exam or whatever metric you choose. Then monitor your progression.

Many of us understand how hard it is to keep putting the effort in.

It will pay off if you continue trying.

Also, as I had mentioned earlier, try to find affordable, objective, knowledgable lessons. It's amazing what an instructor can pick up on in an hour session.

My wife will be out of town on a business trip for the next 60 days. I've got a 9 ft table in my basement, and nothing else to do than shoot pool. Hoping to see a major improvement in my game...we'll see...:)

Would you start with the Billiard University test so we can see where you are and then see where you end up?

Well, I'm in action tonight for the first time since the wife left against a guy I usually play pretty even against, so we'll see how it goes....I had an 88 for my original BU score...played a lot last night.....stroke has definitely improved....shot making has definitely improved....position play and pattern play still need a lot of work...

Be careful when you're apt to go off. Even if you could improve a couple of balls over 60 days, your range of play will probably fluctuate something fierce for a little while.

Yeah, I definitely assume that to be true. There have been plenty of times when I've been practicing and playing lights out....other times, not so much...the 88 could have been better, could have been worse. I'm not too worried about the action since historically we have played pretty even and have gambled together many times before.

I definitely will....ive just been too lazy to break out the measuring equipment thus far...:wink:
