How much does it cost to put a tip on!

My local poolroom installs tips at about the same rate (even for my predator shaft with moori installation) and he also cleans & burnishes the shaft for me as well! After a few to many trial and errors, I gave up on installing my own tip.

I'm not a pro, not in the pool business, so it's kind of a tedious job what with worrying about nicking the ferrule etc, and it takes me a while. I charge friends $50 to install the tip they provide.. $60 for one of my Quick Morri's. It's just not worth bothering with it for any less. If they don't like it they'll have to get their own Willard or lathe. I do clean and polish everything in sight while I'm doing it.

Most just walk away when I say $50. That's what I want. :D

I had a moori installed for $15 the other day, tip included. He used a knife, a file and sandpaper. No lathe is needed. It looks just as good as any other tip I've ever had put on and it only took 15 minutes or so, same as with a lathe, including letting the glue dry.

Why do people insist on using those things to do tip work? I personally have had a shaft ruined when a lathe was used for tip work, and it sounds like other people here have too.

Years ago a great mechanic garage owner installed a engine analyzer. He said it was the best investment he ever made. He charged $35 to hook up and check out the engine. Applied the fee towards any work done. It gave him more business than he could handle. Before that he didn't charge anything for his analysis but people thought he was trying to con them so they wouldn't have the work done. He now charges for advice he use to give for free but a computer now makes him a genius.

People like to feel they are getting more for their money when fancy equipment is used and can justify paying for it because they don't have the stuff needed.
