How Much Is good Break in 9-ball worth...a LOT

I have played my fair share of 9-ball since the late 1970's, but I always hated it. Only reason I played it was it became the only game for good action. I always had a poor break, even on a bar table. Just never practiced it. If I practiced or played someone for time and fun, fun, it was 14.1.

This time when I started playing again it was on my own bar box. I have been playing a lot of 9-ball ghost and working on my break. Now that I can make a ball on the break and a lot of times two, I beat the ghost more than 60% of the time. I know if I make one on the break and spread the balls the I'm even money to win that game. If I make two on the break, I'm the favorite. I want to publicly thank Niel for telling me that my shoulder was killing me from breaking because I should just be using from the shoulder down. My shoulder was in such pain that I couldn't even break at medium speed. Anyhow, now that I took his advice my shoulder doesn't hurt one bit after a 100 breaks or more a day. Thanks Niel. I have the 9-ball ghosts number now, so it's on to the 10-ball ghost. Johnnyt

It makes my day when I find out that some of my drabbling on here actually helps someone!

edit: Niel is that Dutch pro, I'm Dutch, but not a pro, so mine is just Neil. :D

Opps, sorry Neil. My soulder feels great and my break is better now than ever. Johnnyt

I was having back pain, and i recently changed my break after watching a charlie bryant tape on breaking technic.

needless to say, i thought i was taking something off my break to help my back and my break got 25% better.

amazing what being open-minded will do for you :)

I didn't slow my break down at all. I even say it is harder and way more controled than before. Now if I could stop doing the Busta kick and the falling across the table act, I'd be all set. I have to read up on these cam cameras. If you saw how I fly onto the table, you'd all LYAO. I'm just happy I can still do it pushing 70 yo.

It's not that I'm cheap, well maybe a little, but if I have too much trouble getting it on utube or whatever, I know I'll smash the SOBing camera or shoot it. Johnnyt

Get Joe Tuckers "Racking Secrets". That new break will get deadly. No question. 9 ball isnt as much about your break as it is the rack. If you have both the knowledge (thanks Joe) and the technique you are using a recipe for success.
