Just to be accurate with the threads that have been going on. I'll chime in and give you the Accurate Facts about Championships Line of Cloth. Most of what has been said is true however there are a few things that should be corrected.

Championship Worsted cloths include the following.

Tour Edition 3030 24 oz. Tournament Worsted Cloth 70/30 Blend

Pro Am 3020 21 oz. Tournament Worsted Cloth 70/30 Blend

Championship Worsted Ultra 21 oz. Tournament Cloth with Teflon for the Coin Operated Industry.

All three of the Worsted Cloths are over constructed for long lasting wear in a commercial environment. They will all outlast their competition or your money back.

The Blend of the yarn being 70/30 or 90/10 or 88/12 has nothing to do with the quality of the playability or accuracy of the roll of the ball, that could be influenced in the installation but has no bearing on the play.

It's like a putting green that could be of different seeds but both are played on on the pro tour and acceptable. 860, 760 or 860 HR should be compared to 3030 or 3020, they are both Tournament grade products and both are used for the same purpose. However some will out last others based on construction.

Both are brands make quality products and competition is good.

I love reading actual industry knowledge. It fascinates me what and why MFG's do certain things.

Pro Am 3020 21 oz. Tournament Worsted Cloth 70/30 Blend
Anyone know if this is a reissue of the cloth that was made for Connolly?

Championship Worsted Ultra 21 oz. Tournament Cloth with Teflon for the Coin Operated Industry.
Worsted Ultra? Something new?

I don't deal with Champ cloth anymore so someone reputable kindly bring me up to date.

Championship has three Worsted Products in their line.

1. Tour Edition 3030 This is a 24 oz. Tournament grade product that is advertised to out last the competition or your money back. Accurate and Durable

2. Pro Am 3020 This is a 21 oz. Tournament Grade product for those that want a less expensive version of the 24 oz. cloth. It will still out last the competition or your money back including their new HR cloth.

3. Championship Worsted Ultra 5040 This is another Worsted cloth engineered for the Coin Operated Pool table industry and will be featured on New Valley Pool Tables this year. Again , this too will out last the competition since durability is a huge factor for the Coin Op. industry.

4. The old product manufactured for Connelly is no longer available since Connelly was bought out by Champion Schuffle board.

That very same product is available in a few select colors as Mercury or Mercury Ultra with Teflon.

The Mercury Ultra and Valley Teflon Ultra are Hybrid Cloths, which means it is finished like a Worsted but costs and wears like a Woolen Cloth, giving you the speed and play of Worsted and the ability to hide the ball and cue marks that a Worsted cannot do.

That's where the Hybrid Statement comes from, cost of Woolen and Playability of Worsted. This is a very popular cloth for the Coin Operated industry and those in the commercial industry that want great play and great wear without all the spotting that a Worsted cannot hide.

Hope that helps.

FTR the Connelly cloth label was bought by another company, re-labeled and is still being sold altho in limited supply.

I am not familiar with any other company that purchased the rights or names of any Connelly products other than Champion Shuffleboard and they currently still sell under the Connelly brand name.

They no longer carry cloth and I'm not at all familiar with anyone else doing a cloth under their name.

Perhaps you could expand on what you said about their current cloth line or offering.

championship cloth is a american company and they have a great product.not nappy or slow and priced great.
I won world 14.1 on that cloth and it played great.
Mike serra the president is a good guy and big supportor of pool .
If it were me id buy championship cloth. They support the game and hopefully you will help support them.

absolutely john, cloth is perfection to the max for play. Simo cloth is no stroke pool to the max and skid skid skid! To slick!

Thank you John, and you're 100% right about how the 3030 plays IF it's installed CORRECTLY and TIGHT, as all cloths play better when installed right...which is why I made the cloth installation DVDs for Simonis, in time I'll make the same kind od DVDs for all the cloths Championship produces, so installers know how to install the Championship cloth correctly.

Glen

that would be the biggest favor to pool players everywhere, nobody sets up box's like you do.

take care

eric :)

I like the cloth from the old days where you had to have a stroke to play.

Now-a-days anyone who can bink and tap balls around gently can run out.

What kind of cloth did the IPT use?

What kind of cloth requires a 'real' stroke and lasts a long time?

this is the ONLY POST THAT MATTERS IN THIS THREAD!!!! I"M SICK OF PITTY_PAT POOL!!!!!!!

In the old days as they say, they used a woolen (nappy) cloth and the IPT tried to have Gorina make them that style cloth. Gorina has had some financial issues and I'm not sure they still offer that IPT cloth, however there are some options to still obtain that style of long lasting woolen cloth.

Championship makes a Titan or 3078 cloth and it manufactured in the exact same style as those cloths you used to like to play on. It's a heavy 21 oz. blend of 75% wool and 25% nylon and it has been sheared to remove the loose top fibers that you used to have brush for weeks to remove, that is no longer the case with this shearing process.

If you want an even slower version of this cloth, you can ask for 3080 Titan which is backed and plays even slower than Regular Titan. It is available in all colors and might need to be special ordered but it is as slow and as long lasting as anyone can ask for.

As I recall, Champ had the cloth produced and imported for Connelly who didn't take delivery. The original run of cloth had the Connelly edge printing removed and subsequently became the initial offering of ProForm which is a Billiard Wholesalers label.
