how nappy is championship cloth

Looking at redoing a couple tables. Dont want a table that is as bad as the one at my house now. Way nappy and slow.

It's nappy compared to Simonis, but it's not as nappy as that fuzz cloth. It's kind of in between. Personally, I'd rather 860 HR if you are covering a bar box and 760 for at home.

edit-

I just noticed that Championship makes a bunch of different cloths. I've played on the Valley Championship cloth.

.championship cloth is NOT nappy at all. It is much faster than 860 and I wouldnt have anything but Championship 3030 cloth on my table at home.

Champion tournament edition is some really good cloth plays fast. I recommend it without question.

Championship

All the poolrooms around here use Championship cloth as a less expensive and longer wearing alternative to the really famous cloth. Plays fantastic. Try it in gold! The chalk doesn't get all over your hands and turn your shaft all blue.

John,
Thank you, thank you, thank you!!! I have been preaching tour edition for YEARS... and seem to get nothing but "nothing beats Simonis".
Not that Simonis isn't amazing cloth, but tour edition (3030) plays just as well (or better in MY opinion), wears longer, stretches better, and costs less!
Wish it were easier to fing rooms that were willing to try it.
If its good enough for John Schmidt, it's sure as hell good enough for me!

it's not nappy at all......... it's worsted..... it is thicker than simonis 860 an tougher to stretch. It lasts better than simonis.

good cloth

Kim

yes 30/30 is good stuff..have recovered my table the last
three times with it..nothing against simonis , I can get it for
the same price as 30/30..I just worried about moisture..simonis
seem to feel damper then the 30/30 to me..an plays like your
on ice..some of my friends like this about simonis..their nuts..

Cloth

I don't know if any of you are into the science of pool table cloth but if I have time in the next few days I will share a few facts about the two cloths that is always compared to each other.
Here is a little taste

Championship Tour edition is pretty equivalent in play, but will out last Simonis 2x1. I just went through this 4-5 months ago. My table mechanic friend showed me a table that had been played on for 2 years, and still rolled great, so that's what I went with. It's equivalent to good Simonis 860, and it will outlast the 860HR.

IMO it's tough to tell the difference unless your a pro, or good short stop player. My determining fact was that they play close enough to each, but one has to be replaced more often.

You cant go wrong as long as you get Championship Tour Edition, or 860 and above Simonis.

best,

Justin

I get a kick out of threads like this, as they remind me of how little people really know about the industry I work in, which also explains why there's so many import tables sold in this country instead of American made, built right here in the USA. First of all, someone mentioned Championship as being an "American" company...LOL...what's "AMERICAN" about it? Everything they sell to Americans, comes by way of MADE in other countries, like their cloth comes from Mexico...so what Americans are employed making their cloth at the factory mills? And when people talk about indorcing ChAMPIONSHIP cloth as the best, which blend of cloth are you talking about, or do you even know as Championship makes SEVERAL different weaves of cloth, woorsted and non-woorsted, do most of you even know the difference?

I am so sorry that no one knows anything but you............ you are the bomb!!

I've spent the last 30 years putting cloth on pool tables, so I think that sort of makes me an expert at what I do for a living, how about you...what do you do for a living, work on pool tables?;)

I have nothing against Championship cloth, in fact if I had my way, 90% of the bar tables in this country would have the Championship Titan installed on them, as I feel that's the best made cloth in the world for bar tables, way better than ANY woorsted wool cloth made, reason being, not being as fast as a woorsted wool cloth, it helps to hide some of the table roll on unlevel slates, and tables, and because most of the dirt that gets into the cloth from airborn dust, chalk and such...because most bars don't clean their pool tables anyway, the Titan plays better dirty than any Simonis or Championship 3030 does by a long shot because the dirt filters through the cloth, whereas on a woorsted wool cloth, for the most part it just lays on top, with only a little filtering through to the slate.

an tougher to stretch. It lasts better than simonis.

good cloth

Kim

I don't know about you, but on a 9ft I stretch the Simonis 860HR 1.75 inches side to side, but with the Championship 3030, I can stetch it 6" side to side, and longer than the Simonis end to end, so you really NEED to explain "tougher to stretch" so all of us table mechanics out here can understand what you're talking about;)

I have championship tour edition and it is fast, not nappy at all. It plays as fast if not faster than the Simonis at the local pool hall. Depends on which version of championship you buy.

Not to mention, the person that installs the cloth has a lot to do with how it's going to play overall, some green coming your way:thumbup:
