How should I have handled this?

Ran into this tonight. Decided to drop the 9 in the corner and take the foul (which wasn't easy either), but still think there's another way.

We can't jump in our leagues and they frown on extreme masse'.

But what does that accomplish? Your opponent takes ball in hand and depending how the balls end up, I imagine the 5 and the 7 can't be tied up after comboing the 9 in, your opponent can run out.

I was gonna say the same thing but CB is by the rail. So much harder. But yea that's the only other option I have as well.

That was my first thought, also. If you can hit the middle diamond on the long rail, with slight elevation and a lot of spin, you should be able to make the 4. If you do pocket the 4, you're almost guaranteed to have something on the 5.

I would never shoot a three ball combo in order to take a foul, I would rather go down swinging.

This is by no means an easy shot, but possible. Other choices would be to tie some balls up, like pushing the 8 up on the 4 making the runout harder. Unfortunately you are in a bad spot.

Yeah, I just set this shot up and was able to make it on the 2nd try. You have to aim the cueball almost to scratch and put a good amount of left english on it. This should account for the deflection and spin it right around to make the ball. Like I said, it's no easy shot, but something to have in your bag for next time.
