How to combat slow players?

People who play slow are people too, bro. So are people who write posts that go for 5-13 paragraphs without saying anything (not talking about you, B...I like reading your stuff).

Always the humanitarian. I am a bit windy, my wife told me she wished I was a radio, Then she could turn me off.

another way is to tell them that after 30 seconds you will no longer remain still and will talk and move around all you like.
and do it. and they can do the same.

if you are a sheep the wolves will eat you
if you are a mouse every thing hungry will eat you.

Suspect that each person commenting's idea of who's slow is a bit different. And that their threshold is an amount of time that seems just a bit slower than they are.

speaking of being long winded, I was thinking of someone writing a phone app with programmed things, things like farts, sneezes, coughs, It might help just to get a little more breathing room in places like grocery store lineups..

Maybe if he "thinks you are having a farting attack it might make him want to "shit or get off the pot" ? ;-)

The only way to deal with slow players who hold back tournaments, leagues and even friendly matches, is to create and enforce logical rules that make them stop playing slow.
I definitely agree for tournaments, as I would expect that a slow player could be put on a clock--although this is assuming it is more than a local, weekly "fun" tournament. The same for league play, because there is only so much time to complete a match--more so, during playoffs (such as APA Tri-cup, Cities, etc.). For better or worse, I usually see that the regular league matches are more tolerant of slow players...but that may also be because people don't complain enough to the League Operator.

Anyway, I do not disagree with you, assuming there is an avenue for addressing slow play with rules. In the absence of that, I think there are fewer options--so in those cases it definitely is, " catering to the slow player and adapting to their pace".

Oh, and for "friendly matches", I would mostly avoid playing anyone, if their pace bothered me that much! :)

I once had a girlfriend that got into Thai Chi.. they do all these slow movements, very slow,, But if you ever try to "go at" someone with these skills, they can do them quickly , toss you across the room , break your arm or just trip you up and run away. it mostly a self defensive strategy.

The movements are mostly based upon taking the energy thrown at them and using it to their advantage. grab the punch pull the attacker through to the ground. They do them extremely slowly and it looks like a weird dance but there is reason behind it.. it trains them and their muscles and reflexes, so they can do it faster when needed. Maybe there is some similar theory behind shooting like that in pool? yin yang ! ;-)
