How to drum up action

I want to be like a low budget dippy Dave at my pool room. How does a c player go about drumming up action without getting robbed. I asked a guy at my room to play a 500 set but that nit wouldn't give up shit! I even offered to eat a cube of chalk every other game. This is a serious question. Some guys have a knack for getting the action flowing, i want to be those guys.

Well, any C player wanting to play for $500 a set is either crazy, likes burning money, or is rich. So, don't be surprised if someone turns you down. If a C player were to ask around for a cheaper $50-100 set, you will get more action. There aren't many people that can just throw down $500 in a spur of the moment situation.

it seems you want to run before you have learned to walk. continue your roll as a c player and get involved with numerous players for differing amounts of cash. most $500 sets don't start out that way among everyday players and those that do play that high out of the box are looking to rob someone and that would be you. while being an action guy is a worthy goal; being an easy touch for cash is not a good goal.

continue your roll as a c player and try to get your opponent to raise the stakes during matches that are even or where you have the advantage. it is ok to lose to a better player or even when you make a bad game but there is no glamour being a sucker. so keep these flyers to a minimum and just keep playing and wagering and you will get what you want: being an action guy.

don't rule out side action on other players games. the real money in pool is not playing winners but betting on winners. my experience is non players and players that can't play love to wager on others games. they can be involved in a game without demonstrating how bad of a player they actually are. good fishing!

Action will come to you if:
1. you wear a pink glove and carry a pink Stealth Cue (the one that looks like there is a string of anal beads at the butt end). Do not wear the Pink colored shirt and that belongs to American champion one and only Shane V.
2. Hit the balls hard enough to make the whole pool room can hear those sounds
3.Drop the elbow after you hit the Ball and also us lots and lots of body English.

That is more than enough for the gamblers to chase you for action.

I don't think that I am even a C player, but I always matched up and played anyone that had money
I only played a very few people that I could beat even

I applaud your desire to play high and ask for weight.

What you will probably find is that very few good players have any money.

These big talking players are usually broke and need stake horses,

therefore match up with stake horses they are not usually looking for the nuts

playing $5 and $10 pool is a miserable existence, poor brokes with argumentative
attitudes will kill your action and take all the fun out of the game.

Every player there will know exactly how you play and match up tight

If you don't mind letting these guys win,it will help your action,if you lose
and lose and keep offering to bet more then most greedy pool players will seek to play you

i once lost a ton of games in a row to Jersey Red getting 3 pockets to my one.

Every time I went to the bath room, people on both sides told me I had a bad game.
There is seldom a shortage of knockers(stay far from them, they are the worse thing in the world,
never take one into your confidence, they are the true action killers and they will knock you too)

After Red quit ,I was offered several games for $200 to $500 each
I got huge spots from them, which was common in those days

At least I have been there and done what you are asking about,so
this is not the cleanness of theory that I offer you/

I found that dressing nicer, even a sports coat and doing everything I could to let them know I was not one of them ,helped after several years when i had beat everyone

I n my early days I would take a flashy young tomato along, her job was to keep asking me to leave before we lost all our money, this sent a message to the hustlers that it was time to play or I might be leaving

After college the tomatoes dried up and so did a lot of other things

best wishes

just one guys opinion

This is the kind of thing I was looking for. There has to be a way for a c player to match up fairly for a decent amount of money. Are these days long gone? Maybe I should go back to the card room lol

It is hard to get people to play for that much, unless they are sure they have the nuts, in most places. Sure, there are places where you can get the game, but not that many in today's pool world.

Hell, I like to gamble, and I won't risk that much on a single set. I'm far more likely to play 50 or 100 dollar sets. At a card table, I'm much more willing to risk my money. Pool is a slower pace game, and often going to have to start at a lower amount. Game may end up at that 500 a set, but not often going to start there in today's world.

Sucking at pool usually helps drumming up action, lol. I am fortunate in that while I'm no elite player I play equally well (bad) when drunk, so most of my nice scores were made in that state...I'd certainly not recommend that you get drunk, though. My current pool room sucks when it comes to action, and does not have a bar, so I'm curious to see what tips you will get. I agree with one poster who made the observation that the other players may not have the money for your kind of action. In that case, mabe the card game is the way to go. If you beat them at cards, maybe they'll want to avenge their loss on the pool table? Good luck to you.

I get more action on baseball at the pool room then I do on pool. I'm like I want to play mother****ers not watch baseball

You have to have some swag. Fake it til you make it.

Ok, here you go.

The best way to drum up action is to lose lots of money. Exaggerate & brag about how much you have lost in the last year but barely let the meat hunters hear you. Then show 'em. Lose some money to them playing with a spot that you can't lose at, but do.

When you lose, make out like you have an oil well pumping black gold out of your back yard. Not one low-playing action player lets the meat hunters know you're hurting from a loss.

They will fight each other to determine who gets to play you. When you do win, you just have to be smart enough to make it look like you shouldn't have won in the first place; rinse and repeat.

Good luck. I hope you are real good at matching up. Calling the meat hunters nits ain't all you need to know. Just sayin....

Lol I've gone off bad playing poker while drunk. I usually don't drink until I'm done playing pool

Make it known you have money, but trying to high roll guys generally does not work well. Start at lower stakes and move up from there. They only guys that are likely to take the bet at $500 are guy you have no shot beating like A players and above no matter what the weight might be.

Also look for a guy who is slightly better than you but has a big mouth and a big ego ( this guy exists in every room). Lose a few to him and he will make sure to spread the word to everyone who will listen. So and so will gamble and he sucks. Then you are in business.

Also another key is to try and match up on Friday or Saturdays most people with a job will be spending there cash a tad more freely

Start out playing for a dollar a game then when you win, ask if he wants to double the bet. Repeat 28 times and you'll be 2.6 billion dollars richer in no time! Some guy was bragging about doing it a while back, so it must be true.

But seriously, bump your game up to at least a strong B level first, then make everyone think you are a C. Even with a huge spot, you still gotta have a little game to runout when you need to.

you have to learn to make games and match up right. and find players that are gamblers. a guy that doesnt bet much wont even when he thinks he has a good game.

you have to know who you are playing first. if he is a go off when stuck just get him on the table and raise the bet as he loses.
if he is a shoot one or two barrels, dont play him or only play one set win or lose with him.

you will make your best scores playing game by game and moving the bet up when ahead and quitting when stuck as most wont let you get but even then quit.

Ok, here you go.

Sounds like good advice. I don't mind taking a few lumps while I learn to match up but I've always been a decent handicapper. Even for smaller amounts I have players much stronger than me unwilling to give up much. I'm just trying to learn how to stimulate things and get action flowing

:eek::eek::eek::eek: What? Doesn't compute. lol

maybe not what you want to hear, but start losing a lot of money and action will find you

You could first start off by telling us what room you play out of. If you are close I'll match up with you but you have to eat a cube of chalk every time you scratch or foul. I'm a D player if that helps any.

!. Get a 'flash roll'.....7-8 hundred in 20's with 2 hundreds on top, with a rubber band.
Let players see it....a lot.
2. Have a friend come in , match up, and you lose 2-4 hundred to him.
Make sure everyone see's it or hears about it.
3. Flash the cash and repeat....you will get played.

OR

Learn the soft hustle. Winning pool is about people management.
Make people like you, they will lose more money to you and play
you more often. Dont say how bad you play, tell'em how good they play.
Give the impression that you think you play pretty good and are just having
a bad day when you lose or play bad. Lose when playin cheap, win or break even when bettin it up. When you want to lose, always try to run out. When you want to win, blast the 1-2-3-4 ball into the money ball ( or hopefully money balls ). Only try to run out when there are a few balls on the table.
Good luck
Learning how to hustle is a lost art in pool today
