How to explain a Cue purchase to the GF/wife

You are correct!!! .... and don't expect anything different.

You can explain that it will not lose value and that's the only hope you have in a quest to get them to understand. They still won't understand but they will leave it alone... maybe. If they don't, if she continues to give you shit.... well.... "slip out the back Jack, make a new plan Sam, drop off the key Lee". (from an ancient and little known tune called Fifty Ways To Leave Your Lover)

Pardom me you have to explain what to a Girl Friend.

As far as the wife, she spent what on Makeup, a Designer Purse, or? Fill in the BLANK________________

Wow, dude. Seriously, what is so wrong with the concept of working WITH your partner on obtaining things that you both want, as opposed to TELLING that person this is the way it's going to be. Sounds to me like the OP will have much more success in relationships than you and your sexist, ridiculous self.

i love pool, my girl likes pool. she's happy with her 100 dollar rage cue. but when i tell her how much i want to spend on a cue online, she trips. i say look, i love this sport, the cue gains in value.

if that fails....

i lie on how much i spend on the cue!

Honey, you know that outfit you just bought for $650? Well I just bought this cue fot $500 and it will never go out of style, It will go up in value, and I won't grow out of it:eek: Johnnyt

That's what I was going to say. Except I was thinking of an uglyass ring from QVC or matching sheets/curtains when the old ones were just fine.... and the answer is always the same, "Because it was so pritty!!!"

I also believe that lying in a situation like this is perfectly acceptable.

I first need to be able to explain it to myself... It's like drugs! once you get your first custom all you think is about the next one...

I just bought a new cue yesterday and my wife encouraged me to spend more. I didn't really want to spend that much but she was like get the one you really want! The worst part is that I'm always on her about spending money when she goes spend like 150 on a cut and color and what not. Also, her jeans cost 3x what mine cost.

I find the best way to justify it though is to keep track of how much money you make playing pool whether it be gambling or money collected in league or what not and use that on a new cue.

Tap! Tap! Tap!

It is more than just a stick to hit balls around with. It is a piece of art. The great cue makers are like artists, their work is rare and it holds it's value.

That's the method I'm trying :)

Just print out the Seven Cow Cue story from the home page and have her read it. When she's done tell her you have a Seven Cow girl and a Seven Cow cue.

Deal approved. :groucho:

(what a great story!!!)

Ok guys what is the best way to explain a high end cue purchase to the GF/wife? Or even a non-pool playing friend?

I for one am getting tired of people looking at me like I am nuts for spending even 250 on a cue. Let alone the other day I showed a friend of mine pics of a loaded Gina, then he called me a retard for even contemplating buying the cue(asking 9k). He told me "there is no piece of wood on the planet worth that much". I neglected to tell him about the 60k Bushka that just happened to belong to Whimpy.

Anyway how do you all do it????

First, ask yourself WHY you want a $9,000 cue. To show off, improve your game, investment, etc. I first got into it to make a little extra money. I bought and sold them. Once you have answered the question and you are satisfied with the answer, be honest about it with those that you are speaking of. If you have the $9,000, and it won't have a negative effect on your finances, Go for it. It is fine to have nice things The trap comes when we make them into our identity.
Peace, Purdman :)

That's not exactly true. My wife also shoots pool and she carries around a $2200 straight ebony Paul Mottey and a $1500 4 point Tim Scruggs in an Instroke Buffalo case. She doesn't mind me spending unGodly amounts of money on a cue stick *IF* I can afford it. I see nothing wrong with that way of thinking. So not *all* of them don't understand.
MULLY
I'm one of the lucky ones

2 of my most favorite photos of my wife, especially the top one. There's nothing sexier than a good looking Asian woman with a pool cue. :D

"Remember that trip to Disney World? You know that money came from the green felt, right? You don't want me to chance not getting out from using some ol' beat up piece of crap, do you?"

As far as freinds and famiily goes, why explain it at all. They dont pay your bills so your expenditures are none of their business. tell em to mind theyre own business. If its a g/f tell her its your passion, unless shes your wife and you split the bills it aint really her business either. If its your wife, well that ones more tricky. Everyones gotta find their own way through this one. every woman is different. You just gotta find out what works for her.

Personally id tell them all to eff off. Im more of a loner though. i dont care if they dont like what I do or what I spend my money on. If they dont like it they can take a hike, I prefer solitude anyways. thats just me though.

Check out my current avatar. My wife's toys. It costs me a nice cue stick a month minimum.

lol, poppa was a rollin stone!

Cue Purchase

If you have the money to spend, be honest and tell your wife or GF you are buying a high end cue. Your wife should support you, if your GF gives you grap, find a new GF.

Check out my current avatar. My wife's toys. It costs me a nice cue stick a month minimum. So it isn't too much of a problem.

Man O Man can I relate to that. I purchased Taho Lake off the track 17 years ago. Board has been between $240 and $600 a month. Jake is 21 now. My wife has gotten more pleasure out of him than anything else in the world except me. Worth every damn cent too.
Peace, Purdman
