FYI, I just posted a new video that demonstrates how to stun the cue ball forward or backward small, controlled distances from the stop-shot position. Being able to reliably execute stun run through and stun back shots will help you win games. Check it out:

Content:
0:12 - Spin Conversion
1:38 - Stop Shot
2:09 - Stun Back
4:17 - Stun Run Through
6:20 - Examples

As always, I look forward to your feedback, comments, questions, complaints, and requests.

Enjoy!

Great stuff Dr. Dave. Will check it out. I recall Mizerak called the "bottom part of the cue ball" the "strongest part of the ball." I think I know what he meant by that. Hitting the ball firm and letting it float forward or along the tangent line is one of life's greatest joys.

The small window stun through is probably my favorite shot to perform perfectly.

I worked on this a lot when first starting out but I haven’t been keeping up with it. This will be my practice for tomorrow. Rock on dr Dave ✊ Excellent video

I like practicing them at different speeds. I usually do better with medium-fast speed. Do you and others have the same experience?

I definitely do better at faster speeds. I think it became such a favorite for me because it was something I figured out on my own and it went against my natural instincts.

Wanting the cue ball to barely roll forward, but failing with slow roll attempts, I finally worked it out and I love the feeling of hitting the cue ball with power but getting such a delicate roll out of it. You feel totally in control of the whole situation...when you’re doing it correctly lol.

What about stun-back at short distances? Do you and others prefer fast speed on those also? I like a medium speed on these unless the OB is far from the CB, in which case fast speed (with the tip not as low) is better.

For some reason I never heard Miz use those words. But man that sure sounds right to me. It is the strongest part of the ball. Well said!

Thx

What do you guys think of this?

For stun through I definitely like higher speeds better, it seems too easy to pick up too much cue ball roll at slow speeds. For stun back for me it depends on the distance between cue ball and object ball, shorter distance= less speed, more distance = more speed.

It would have been great to include ball replacement shots (cue ball stops where object ball was) with this episode, I really struggle to get that one right, especially at longer distance.

another great video dr dave
i was really impressed at how many PERFECT stop shots you hit...... (y)
imo
many people dont understand how to play position with tip position instead of stroke speed

It sounds like great minds (and people who have actually practiced this stuff) think alike.

Agreed. That would have been a nice addition to the video.

As you know, it helps when you can edit out the bad ones.

Agreed. Many players, especially beginner and lower-intermediate players, also don't have a clue about how low and high you can actually hit the ball. But many of them can't actually aim that low or high because they have stroke flaws that create too much tip-contact-point inconsistency, so it is probably better that they don't know.
