I disagree. You have performed a legal short by the rules that apply anytime during a game off nine ball.

Eight ball is a call shot game and the eight pocketed early anytime after the break is a loss.

I like the rules that used to require a spot or rerack.

A contest of skill shouldn't be determined by a lucky 9 on the snap
or shit in 9

It's the home run of the game.

For short bar tourneys it is exciting and gives the lesser player a chance at victory an speeds up the event.

For leagues and other events that are designed to find the best player, the win on the break might not be as good of an idea.
