Need Help! Have 3 guys tied for 3rd after a long league season. Would like to hear feedback on best way to settle or break tie to find 3rd,4th, and 5th places. playing 8 ball and would like to do a race to 2 format. Any Ideas?

Thanks

Easy, potato sack race, or hot dog eating contest....Chestnut or Kobayashi are not allowed to participate.

The first thing that comes to mind is a round robin. If they're all still tied after that, run another round robin with shorter races (race to 1??).

I assume ths is to divide money at the end if so why determine places just group the money for the three places together and divide by 3. pay each the same amount.
If you really need to determine place a round robin between the three sounds good whoever wins the most games win.

No money involved. Yes a round robin format. Race to 2. If a tie then race to 1 was what I had in mind. Just wanted to see if someone had a better idea. I guess a three way coin flip to see who plays who first?

Thanks

You need to give more information. Are you the LO or Team Captain. How long was the league? What kind of league? Is their money involved? A trip involved? Why should a long season be decided over a short race to 2?

I would take suggestions from them, but I like the idea of a round robin personally.

Play a round robin with races to 5.

After each match, the person's "score" is the Number of game won - Number lost.

i.e. 5-3 win gives you 2 points, losing 4-5 would gives you -1 points.

after the round robin is done, add the two match scores together for a player's total.

If there is still a tie, replay with just the people who tied.

Fair and simple.

Use regular season record. If one of them beat the other 2, he gets ahead. Then the other 2 can use games won / lost record. Most games won gets 3.1 place, next highest gets 3.2 place then 3.3 place. If the all beat eachother (1 beat 2, 2 beat 3 and 3 beat 1 for example), use the games won / lost record for all of them.

Since the season is over, having them play more games to find out the standings is not really the best way as they already played out for the standings. Plus it makes the number of games won count, not just if you win the set. Assuming you kept track of actual games and not just the sets.

A race to two? Really? So what happens if you alternate the breaks, and Guy 1 breaks and runs, then Guy 2, breaks, comes up dry, and Guy 1 runs a second rack. Guy 2 only made one stroke, on a shot that has a lot to do with luck.
Do you make a ball, and do you have a shot at something?

And this is to settle a long league season?

Make the race to 5 or 7 or something. Round robin format. Take total games won into consideration. That way, even if everyone comes up with 1 match won, and 1 match lost, you'll still be able to go by who won the most games over all.

Why wasn't this decided before the league started. Games won, Points scored, weeks played????

My leagues resolve ties using the following decision-making steps:
1) Rank the tied players according to match win:loss record among the tied players. If ties still remain...
2) Rank the remaining players according to overall win:loss record. If ties still remain...
3) Rank the remaining players according to match score win:loss differential.

It's worked every time so far & I stated these conditions in the league guidelines passed out at the beginning of the season.
