How to use the BreakRak?

I need to improve my break and will be using the Breakrak. I will have it next week. I figure many instructors have used the Breakrak to teach so I thought I would ask for help on using it correctly.

What are some good practice methods when using the Breakrak for both eight ball and nine ball breaks?

Thanks for your time!

The design of the break-rack allows it to simulate a 9 ball rack. It's best use is to practice a head ball break with enough break speed and tip placement to bring the cue ball back to the center of the table. You cannot practice second ball break as commonly done in 8 ball with it. Additionally I believe the weight of the break-rack closely matches a 9 ball rack's weight which will throw you off if you intend to use it to practice an 8 ball break.

I like using the break-rack with the break speed app on my Iphone. You get the feedback of how the cue ball responds after hitting the rack, with the additional knowledge of the speed of the break shot.

According to the designers of the breakrak, the device is set up to equally simulate an 8 or 9 ball rack. Further, it is possible to rotate the device slightly to the side to allow practicing the second ball break in 8 ball.

Interesting, on the weight and rotation. I assumed it was more tuned for a 9 ball-10 ball rack, not a full rack of 15 balls.

I am not sure how the rotation will work as mine does not have a second ball.

So if I rotate it, I am not sure what I am supposed to aim and hit.

Are there different models out there then the one I have I wonder?

I will have to contact Cee-Bee to see how that works.

Tony, send an email to mtcraney@gmail.com, I will glad to forward the email explanation I received from breakrak. I have been considering the purchase of a breakrak. After reading your post, I sent an email to the breakrak folks posing questions relating to the shortcomings you posted about. I received a prompt response including a diagram of how to set up the breakrak for the second ball break.

I want to improve my speed without losing control of the cue ball.

The BreakRac would be perfect if combined with a speed app. Call me when you can and I will walk you through a Break tecnique.

I just learned something new, you can practice a second ball break, by using a loose ball as the head ball then positioning the breakrak at an angle in the second ball position.

Many thanks for nobcitypool for following up on this.

YES

We have tested the RADAR against the APP & the computer Speed Trap, more than once.

I just talked with the man that developed the Break Speed RADAR accessory.

The Break Speed RADAR displays in "tenths" of a mile per hour. It actually reads the speed within +/- 1%.

That;s close enough for me.

The Break Speed Radar is $140 plus $15 s/h/i

I plan on buying the breakrak very soon. It comes highly recommended as the best/only way to efficiently work on your break. I think I will be fine with the phone app as a speed reference though. Even if it is off it should be consistent. That would be good enough to give you feedback on the fluctuations in speed as you practice.
