How Would Play This Layout?

You just broke, made two balls and left yourself here. Which option would you shoot?

That is a tougher one than the last one I saw you post -- really enjoying these.

[Edited from crazy shots to 'I have no idea'].

Curious to hear from the much more experienced 9-ball players if it's best just to push and make the nine. Sometimes simple is best. Since you can see the one, it's probably smarter to thin the one and play safe, leaving the nine where it is.

Play thin on the 1 and leave the cueball on the bottom rail for a safety.

I'd probably hit rail first and try to kick the 1 ball behind the 5 & 6. Just not sure by the pics if I could get it to the long rail so probably off the short. If I can get behind the 1 enough to play off the long rail for a two way on the 9, I'd probably attempt that.

I play the billiard off the side of the 1 into the 4 and run the 4 into the 9, it's almost dead. I can control the 1 ball so it is still on the siderail and I will never completely sell out or leave an easy lock safe for my opponent.

The only way I pass on this shot is if my opponent had a big lead and was within a game or two of winning. Even then I might shoot it because as it lies I look to make the 9 ball probably 70% of the time and again you rarely are gonna sell out an easy shot here.

I like this but is the scratch in the corner not a factor after contacting the four?

thin the one with inside softly, one comes off the rail a bit and lock whitey behind the 8 ~ JAIL

Hit the one ball low english and leave cue ball stuck to that pink one with the one ball closer to the nine.

How about force follow the CB into the 8, sending 1ball three rails back near the 7. Using the 3 and 5 as possible blockers....

Old Nine Baller I think this is your best one yet

I really don't see a best option for everyone, I feel your skill level dictates the best choice.

a C Player should pocket the 9

a B Player should play the safe (thin hit with inside)

an A Player should attempt the billiard with some speed, so the nine doesn't just hang

It's actually not your skill level that determine play, it's also your opponents.

A vs A - NO WAY you take a flyer on the nine. Total sell out.

A vs B - I still don't risk the 9 hanging. It's possible the 4 would come under the 9 and they get jammed, the 4 squirts out leaving the 9 as a hanger.

A vs C - I might risk it in a cash game, knowing that he can't run out in case I miss. But Tourny? nope.

The winning strategy here is to play safe and force your opponent to kick just to hit the 1.

Personally, I thin the 1 leaving it in back of (and maybe frozen to) the 4. Whitey will be on the short rail.

It's safe, controlled and predictable. Odds of me back at the table is >90%.

Play it rail first off the 8 to make the 9 rail first with some speed so if you miss
the 1 clears away from the 9.

Follow with the cue ball to find some cover if the 1 comes up table on the
same side.

Shane made the 9, but I guess he's not really an A player

slightly cut the 1 to the right to join cue ball and 8 (even better if you put cb between rail and 8), 1 should be hidden by the 4. Careful to not hit the 6 with the 1 and leave a 9 combo!

Simple,,,, play the 1 think with some inside, cue ball goes to end rail and comes back behind the 8! I watched efren hit that shot, I committed that shot to memory;)

Shoot the 1 four rails to the foot rail. Let whitey drift
up to freeze on the eight and use the 5 and 7 as blockers.

I like this better than the billiard. You can leave the cue ball snug on the side rail.
