how would you play this situation?

I think that 7 easily goes in the side with draw, so just draw back past the 11 and you're out.

this is what I tried, and the pocket rejected the seven🤦‍♂️
I aimed for the big part of the pocket- in hindsight, I think I could have shot through the point

the rail-first option seems to be a popular pick- I honestly couldn't see this working at the time
I only tried the shot once tho, will have to take another run at it (or three ^_^)

thanks all for the replies!

Rail first is one of those things that some people get into even when not needed. Anything within one ball of the rail and a mild angle going to it I usually shot rail first for years, even with nothing blocking the straight on hit. Somehow it seemed like the cue ball came off the rail at a milder angle than if shooting into the object ball directly. Not making the claim that this is really true but you will find a lot more rail first advocates among the old guard that cut their teeth playing on nine and ten foot tables I suspect.

When I came back to pool a guy saw me shooting a wide open shot rail first and asked me why. "I don't know, seems easier."

Try shooting near straight with a slight bias to the left. Max left at the equator or slightly lower if you can follow in that manner. This is not a stun shot; just a spin shot. The cueball should gently grab the rail and spin itself down past the 8.

Without being ''at the shot'' where miniscule amounts of how much or how little of the obj. ball you can see make all the difference in your shot choice.

Your 100% on the money.

I set this up a couple times. 7 in the side with draw was no prob and out.

Rail first I shot 3 times. I slow rolled it and it hit the 11 and basically stopped. A half ball hook by the 8-possible jump on the 2.
I shot it a little more firm and it hit the 11 and headed directly at the 8. To close for a jump.
3rd time.. I hit it with high at lag speed and ended up under the 8 and out.

Yep, looking at 2D on the computer isn't nothing like our 3D world. If I try to say what spin I will put on the cue ball with detail I would probably change it when I faced the shot on a table.

I can't really tell if the 7 will go in the side or not or if its resting too much on the tip of theside pocket. But it look like you can hit the 7 with a lot left english and spin either into the eight or past the eight for postion on the other solid ball. If the 7 is not pocketable into the side I would go 2 rails (both short rails)off the 2 ball (pocketing it) into the 7 or the stripe to try and break it off the tip of the pocket.
