How would you play this? Two balls on same rail

I am surprised no one has considered the following option:

Bank the 8 ball 3 rails, making it in the corner. You could just stop the cueball and be straight in on the 9 ball. If you miss you the 8 ball you will get safe if you strike it with the correct speed.

:D JUST KIDDING :D

I must play too much one pocket!

Okay, it's 9-ball. You only have to shoot these last two balls to win the set but both sit on the same rail. Fortunately, you've fallen dead perfect but you still have one last shot to execute to finish off your opponent. What do you do?

CueTable Help

First Diagram: I would cut the eight in with just below center no english and the cue ball should automatically come of the rail at very slight angle come acroos the table and rebound back to the same rail in line with the nine ball

Second Diagram: I would cut the eight ball in with extreme right bottom english, cue ball would then come off rail and go across table passing opposite side pocket then hit bottom right rail and then the end rail and then float up for position on the nine in same pocket as eight ball

Just to mix things up, would you play the 8-ball the same way in the diagram below or would you do something different? Explain.

CueTable Help

Seems foregone to me. Choose the shots that have the least risk of scratching in the top side pocket.

Same shot, same english on both shots for me. Just a touch bottom right with a smooth stroke gets me above the side pocket to shoot either 9-ball position back into the same pocket.

Depending on my mood and the table conditions, maybe just bottom on the first layout.

Not sure if my way is the best way or the most logical way, but it's what I would end up shooting with some confidence that neither side pocket is coming into play.

i dont know how do diagram.. The first shot i would try and get above the side pocket. the 2nd shot i would just go back and forth and try to come up just off of the same cushion the 9 is on.. It is hard to judge the angle on a "table" on the computer.. It might just be as easy to use top inside and run the cue ball around 3 rails above the side pocket for both shots.. i would have to see it in person i guess..

This is easy as you really only have to avoid the scratch on the second rail, and its kind of tough to overdo the spin to get that far uptable:

For this, I prefer the 3 rail route as you may come up short on the back and forth and have a steep cut down the rail:

I'd go with Franky here. The second shot depends slightly how the table is playing, there might be a risk of a scratch even with extreme left english if the cloth is brand new. I would never play position "under" the nine there, just too small area to have a good position for the 9 and because the cueball is near the 8, it's easy to spin the cueball "above" the 9 and not be afraid of missing the 8. The risk of scratching in the top middle bag is much lower than the risk of not getting out if playing bad position under the 9.

I believe as the table gets slower, one would have to hit the 2 rail shot firmer, therefore making it easier to slightly overhit the ball, and end up scratching.

Also, with a slower table, the CB will more easily go forward into a sharper angle from the first rail to the second rail, making the three railer much easier. On a fast table, on this three railer, if you hit it a bit too firm, the CB "stuns", going much further up the second rail, ruining the three rail angle, and coming close to a scratch in the opposite side.

Take this with a grain of salt.

JMHO as a C player...

My thoughts exactly ;)

Yeah me too, I like Franky's method here. Although had I not seen Franky's, I would've most likely shot it like pj's.
