How would you play this?

Two nights ago I was playing some barbox 9-ball and was stuck $250. We had time to play 1 last set. I tried to play it for $250 but he'd only go $200. Match is hill/hill and I break the balls, nothing falls, and balls are wide open. My chances of getting back to the table were not good at all. The 6 ball was frozen to the same rail as the 9-ball and he had to cut it up the rail and ended up missing it and leaving with the shot in the diagram.

How do you runout from here? Imagine being stuck $250 and if you miss here you are going to be out $450. If you win you are only stuck $50.

Depending on speed of the cloth and rails, you can manipulate this shot, and possibly draw a little bit more and get 4 rails out of it, and end up nearly straight on the 7. Mebbe Roy's shot is possible, but it looks like it has to be hit softly to bend forward on the 8, and hitting this softly with that much spin looks dicey. JMHO, as a C player.

Yep, Russ' shot is the right shot. There's no way to get the cueball to go between the 8 and 9 as diagrammed in the first response. Basically, my focus is to just get a shot on the seven; this is one of those situations where I have to settle with more distance to the seven than I would normally want. Although, if it's a bar box, it's not very difficult to pocket the seven.

This is an oppurtunity that one regular playing the weekly 9-ball tournament I normally enter, definitely would try on this layout:

He would smash the 6-ball hard, hoping that it would hit the 9. In case he misses the 9 with the 6-ball he would put on lots of high right on the cueball so the cueball can hit the 9. For him this is what he would call a 2-way-shot.

I guess there are players like that in all poolhalls...

This ended up being the path I took. I slightly modified the ball positions that I think may be a little more accurate. You also have to take in mind this was on a bar table.

I couldn't do Roy's shot where I just cut it in with maybe right spin and go two rails because the cueball would run into the 8-ball.

I considered the shot Russ diagramed but it was a somewhat thin cut into tight side pockets and I didn't want to any inside english. I realize the shot could be shot with just bottom and get natural english from the rails but I didn't like it for some reason.

I ended up doing the shot below with bottom right english and came out smelling like a rose. The right english shortened the angle coming off the second rail and sent the cue ball back up table. Not bad for a $400 shot.

If my opponent would have won by either of those two shots I would have puked ;) As it was... my opponent was pretty sick about it. :D Was the happiest I have ever been losing $50!
 
The new position of the 6 certainly changes things completely and of course makes Roy's and my choice very clearly not feasible. It's a good out as diagrammed now, well done.

This may be completyly the wrong shot...and I would not know without seeingthe exact layout first,

but....If as you say it was pretty spot on that you were going to run into the 8 ball, and since you are playing on a bar box...I may have opted to play the 6 pocket speed into the side and float into the 8...that 7-ball is pretty much a hanger on a bar box if the CB is anywhere past about the first diamond and a half....

The big question would be what side of the 8-ball is was going to hit......And how thin did I think I was going to catch it.

It is one of those....do I hit the shot now or later......since drawing high side probably had a bit or risk also....If you don't hit it right it slides right up into that corner pocket...

Just gotto go with what feels right for that particular moment I guess.
