So it looks like I will be reloacting to the Denver area in the next few weeks. How is the scene out there? Are there any good places to play? Leagues? Tournaments?

Not too hot.

Felt, Hanks Place, Wynkoop, Rack'em...that's about it.

Look up the cuetimes online for all info on the pool scene.

I just thought of this as I'm considering Denver as a future location. Measureman has posted many times on the Denver pool scene, so I suggest searching his posts and/or asking him.

Felt's pool scene and tournaments/leagues are now run by our own Samm Diep, things should be improving.

In addition to their other 9' tables, WynKoop has 4 nice Gold crowns that were just added and spaced better than before so the support pillars are not in the way. The room there is run by Melissa Little and she has a number of events including her own 15-rack league. It's a great place during the day, but can get a little crowded at night since it is a very successful/busy restaurant/bar and micro brewery - they have great food.

Hank's has been the consistent room in Denver for many years - great green chili, golf games in the afternoon and action at the right times.

About an hour north of Denver is Fort Collins' Match Up's. It's run by Nicole & Mike Hellmer and they will make you feel welcome, just say hello. Friday evening 8-ball tourney on the barbox ($8 entry, race to 2, double elimination, $100 added) and on Sundays they have a big table handicapped 9-ball Tourney $10 entry, $100 added beginning at 3PM. Free taco bar when the Broncos play on TV (I think they still have it this year). If you are looking for some cheap 1-pocket, I would be happy to play.

I would say there are games for virtually every level of player (except pro level) at all rooms if that's what you're looking for. Welcome to the mile high city.

This pretty much sums it up. But if you like to play bar league pool there is lots of it here.
No free water and please don't steal the chalk.

If you play bank pool...you've got instant action! Flip it.

I've never found anybody to play banks with in Denver.

LOL ...seriously, you must be the only bank pool player on the front range!

I have seen you play some, so I know I'll need some weight. Next time I go down to Denver, I'll give you a shout if you want to play a fair game (not the usual lock artist b.s. everyone insists on and then only for $5 or $10 a rack).

Rack 'em - kinda lame, imho. I've never found any action there. Seems mostly a Texas hold'em joint with some pool tables thrown in for the heck of it. A bit of a seedy location with poor parking at night. Went in there last week and asked if there were any bank pool players around. The attendent didn't know and didn't care. He was just another example of what's wrong with most pool rooms these days: the folks who work in the halls know very little, if anything about pool.

King Billiard - (No I didn't forget to put an 'S' on the end of the name) A Korean joint that's practically across Havana from Rack 'em. Sodas only. No food or liquor. They've got a half dozen or so Hollywood 3Cushion tables with the proper cloth. They also have 3 or 4 GC's that seldom see any play. Hard to find a game there if you're not Korean, but I've had some luck snapping a fin to Miss Kim for lining me up. I've never had anyone ask me if I wanted to bet anything, but that's probably just as well since I am only an intermediate 3C player. If you get in a game at King they automatically play for the time. The intermediate players play a variation of 3C where any rail first 3C carom is worth 2 pts and if you air ball your attempt you deduct a point. Some good 3C players down there and they will play you if they get to know you a bit. Good place to learn 3C on a real 3C table. Most are 9ft with (1) 10 ft. Unless you are a pro they recommend using the 9ft tables.

Felt - Usually one can find some action... if you can get past all the lock artists. Food, beer and wine. Older GC tables, some with pro cut pockets.

Thanks for all the responses guys.

What about league play? Are there any good 9 ball leagues in the area?

Welcome to the Mile High City! The "scene" is slow from the summer but starting to pick back up.

Felt Billiards is the premier pool room in Denver. We have ten GC's (three recovered and the rest recovered this month), one snooker, one billiards, and eight (soon to be 11) Valley bar boxes all newly recovered with new rails.

See FeltBar.com for details on leagues/tournaments. I'm also kicking off the USA Pool League in Denver (see: RockyMountainPool.com to join a league in your area)

As for tournaments, we have a Friday night 8-ball and Saturday night 9-ball on the bar table (we'll be swapping those starting October), and I'm starting the big table tourneys next week: 10-ball on Thursdays and 9-ball on Sundays.

As for action, wait until my husband gets to town... ;)

Stop by anytime! We'll take care of you!
