Has anyone heard anything from Nick? I havent seen his name listed on the AZ Billiards tournament brackets in a long time. I knew he was sick during the Derby City Classic and was in the hospital. Has anyone heard if he has recoverd or what his status is?

kentucky 9 ball

nick varner is still recovering from his surgery from january. Also he is having severe pain in his neck. He has been having this pain for the last two years it seems to be getting worse and it hurts worse when he trys to play pool.

Nick was just in the Chicago area. He was selling cues and other products. He said he did an exhibition in Peoria, IL and then moved his way to Chicago. He played a little while he was in town. He is still recovering but he is also play quite well. He said it is hard for him to play for long periods of time. I hope he makes it to some tournaments soon. It would be good to see him back out there.

Take care,
Sarah

Last I heard (within the past month or so), Nick was targeting the US Open as his comeback date.

Nick is missed. Though most realize he has had a magnificent playing career, I don't think many realize just how strong his credentials are.

Nick won the world Open 14.1 Championship (1981), the WPA World 9-ball Championship (1999), the World 8-ball Championship (1994), and I believe, at least one World One Pocket Title (though, at very least, he won the One Pokcet title at Derby City in 2000).

Who, my pool historians, other than Nick has shone so brightly in tournament play in all four of the major pool disciplines? Nick is truly one of the greatest to ever play the game we love, and yet his name is not mentioned nearly often enough when "best ever" debates take place.

I've personally had the pleasure of watching Nick play for 26 years now, and I hope to see him play again soon.
