I am purchasing a Huebler blue mammoth cue, and I wanted to know what the market value is? I am basically getting it from a friend for nothing. It has been in a original huebler case, never played with. I found pics of the same cue on ebay, and I am coping those pics for reference. I appreciate any insight you guys could provide.

Very nice cue aprox. price i would have to go home and look it up for you. i can do that by tomorrow if needed. would you be willing to sell this. PM me if so.

I have bought and sold 3 blue mammoths over the years when I used to collect huebler custom shops.

they are worth generally about 500 with a steel joint and 600 with an ivory joint assuming both shafts are straight with ivory ferrules and the inserts are intact.

nice cue

Huebler Custom Prices

Sorry Ryan, I would have to disagree on the $500-600 (With Ivory Joint and Ferrules) I have collected and watched pricing on Hueblers for many years. Top of the line production Hueblers go for up to that price in very good condition. I will buy all the Custom Hueblers I can find for that price range. Unfortunately, I personally have never ever seen one go that low.
I realize prices are low now, but some are buying, and paying premium prices from certain cue builders. The market is strange. Some day I predict Huebler Customs, especially the rare ones will be highly sought after. Scruggs cues, even production models, have gone through the roof. It is all supply and demand, and Paul Huebler did not sell that many Customs. He will be 82 this year and as of last week has no employees.

The prices from Ebay are usually fairly indicative of what you could expect from a cue like this. They are very nice cues. Right now, the market is tough, and Huebler cues have a limited, but loyal, group of collectors. Here are some past Hueblers from Ebay:

Personally, I would guesstimate in the $750 range, but it might be less right now, or if the right person sees it, it might be more.

I would HIGHLY suggest that you post pix of YOUR cue. A lot of folks are leary of high-jacked pix. There have been a number of scams where someone else's pix were used....certainly not saying that here, but most really interested folks will avoid any committment unless you have actual pix of what they are buying.

Best of luck with this one...real nice cue. My personal method of pricing is to look at what I paid, figure out what I believe is a fair profit, and list the item for that amount. If I come up a few bucks low, my customer gets a good product at a good price. If they want to sell it and make a few dollars profit on it, great. Then they come back for something else and we are all happy. I have had a reasonable amount of success using this method.

Yep...I would have agreed with you at one point - but having owned MANY custom shop cues (ivory chess, us open, ivory king, etc...) I know that when I sold them to reinvest in a ginacue etc... I had a very hard time getting more than 700 for a blue mammoth and more than 1200 for a an ivory pointed custom shop. Paul's cues just are not that desirable right now.

the cue on ebay right now...I used to own it and I didnt sell it for 900 bucks (much less)

Thanks for the input

I appreciate eveyone's advise and input. I am not a collector, but I just wanted to know if the cue was worth it. I will be picking it tomorrow and I will post my pics in the afternoon. Thanks to all, and Good Shooting!

also...the huebler customs you own: the chess, us open, and Iceman - I sold to you...you have some nice custom shops

the ying yang 1 of 1 that Maxx owns...I sold that to him.

I spread my collection out to many AZers...Paul made a nice cue - just not appreciating as an investment as the average sales price is still MUCH less than retail was for most of the custom shop cues.

I Buy Huebler Customs

Custom Hueblers (In Pristine Condition) rarely surface for sale on ebay and AZ. When they do, the prices are never cheap. I check daily and have done so for years. I would not pay more than 6-700 for a used Blue Mammoth, but a new condition in original case, that is a different story. The cues in my collection from Birk1 (Ryan) are amazing examples of Hueblers work. They are priceless to me. Many people pay $1500 or more for basic models of cues from hot cue builders.
Yes the Huebler collectors are few. I am still searching for a few more of his rarest cues and predict it to be a great long term investment. I hope you enjoy your Blue Mammoth. Bob H.

Thanks all for info

Question- Why does it have the name of the Blue Mammoth? I assume the ivory and the blue color. Do you know what the blue material is on the butt end?

Thx

Ivory?

The Ivory is Mammoth Ivory in blue plastic like material. Mine has blue in the veneers, blue and white wrap, blue ring work, and the blue plastic. Not all had the blue on white wrap. I think my wrap color makes the cue. Mine was the last one made and was signed on the forearm and both shafts by Paul.

Blue Mammoth Pics

Hope the low res pics show up.

Blue Mammoth ivory

Hi, this is speculation only. Mammoth ivory is fossilized inory. Means its been in the ground a long time. If it was resting next to something that would stain it blue then it comes out blue in color. Ivory (not fossilized) is very tricky stuff to color. If you are working with it iodine will usually give you a pleasant redish brown color. But its tricky it may take a good color and it may come out blotchy or spotty as well and you can't really go back. Soaking in a hot (200/250F) sugar soulation. Then again soaking in most acids will almost always give you a grey to black ivory. But there is very little call for it.
