Huebler cue question

I am looking at a 70s era huebler cue and discription is a 57 inch cue.
I don't know the model number. Does that sound right for the length?
If so when did huebler change from 57 to 58? Would like some information on this. Thanks, john

It may have been a longer cue originally. Sometimes a cue gets a ferrule replaced and as a result the cue gets shortened.

Huebler (AND most others) cue length from 70's on

Most of the cues (both production and custom) were an inch shorter than the present cues until the early 70's (varies depending on maker). They also had a butt that was fatter (grip was bigger around) and the majority of shafts did not have a "pro" taper, usually a constant taper. WHY...it probably was due to the slower cloth used then requiring a stronger hit, therefore requiring more force.
IMO

57" cues

As a player from the 70's I can tell you that the standard length back then was 57". I had to special order a 59" from Bob Meucci in "77. Shaft sizes varied as well. 13 mm tips were common. I had a 14 mm as well for the "Big Rock". Today that would feel like a baseball bat.

I remember the longer ferruels becoming all the rage. I believe Meucci started that, they had 1 1/4 " ferruels. Today the shorter the ferruel it would seem the better. Everything changes, as it should. Todays cues are much different with different playing characteristics.

I can & do occassionaly wax nostalgic. Last night I spent some considerable time on the web researching one of my favorite cues of all time after all I owned 3 of them in the 70's & 80's, Meucci Original MO-7.
Black Wrap. 2 of them special orders to my specs.

Huebler, Meucci & McDermott had a great deal in common back then. For all of them 57" was standard length. If it is described as a 70's cue & was any other length I would consider it suspect. Your description sounds "Spot On". Hope this helps.

Good luck & good pool'

Meucci cues were standard 58". I was the first one in the area to have one and it was ordered out of Bob's first catalog.
Blue Book lists Meucci as 58" standard, also. No mention of 57". It was the first 58" cue I owned. The Palmer I had
before it was 57".

I don't know what the blue book lists as I don't have one. I owned 3 MO - 7's. One was a special order 59" the other 2 were 57". I purchased my 1st Meucci in 1977 in Dallas. I purchased the other 2 in Omaha. As for other cues, 57" was common then. That's my experience.

That was the very first 58" cue I saw. I don't remember now when the catalog came out or when I ordered the cue but it was prior to 1977, I think.
