I'm trying to get as much information as I can about this Huebler for a friend of mine. This is not my cue.
It has a 5/16-18 flat faced joint, with nylon inserts in the shafts. Rather than what I have seen previously,
this one is marked "Cue by Huebler". And as you can see in the pictures, one of the ebony points has lost
its point. I'd like to know when this might have been made, and what it would be worth. All help is greatly
appreciated.

Chris

More pictures

The last two pictures show the nylon inserts in the shafts, and the "Cue By Huebler" more clearly.

EDIT: I was wrong about the date. The engraved logo puts this at about 1985. The transfer logos (same text) came after that. Thank you poolcrazy.

The cue was made between 86 and 93. Damn shame the points are screwed up but a skilled repair man could make them right. Ryan...you there?

I don't know the model off-hand but you can find a link to a facebook page with the old Huebler brochures in my signature. It's the "cue identification resources" link. The facebook page is not mine, it's maintained by another AZBer.

Very nice cue. Needs a little work on those points.

it was made in 1985

after looking close at the cue it looks at first glance like a H-14 with added ringwork on the buttsleve but the forearm looks like some of his older work. as of right now I cant ID the cue except that it was indeed built in 1985

Yup. The 85 was the engraved logo. I missed that.

But I have an earlier H-14 with the vertical logo. And although the butt sleeve is similar it is in fact different on this cue. And the veneers on the points are different too. That's why I didn't say it was an H-14.

What do you think poolcrazy? Am I off on those points?

Thanks for your replies, guys. And a special thanks for the link, Doc. If my friend were to get this refinished and get the point cleaned up, any idea what it would be worth (and what it's worth now)? The shafts are dead straight and I believe they're a full 13mm each. Just knowing the year it's from was a HUGE help. More comments are definitely welcomed.

Just curious if anyone knows whether Paul Huebler is still around? If so, and someone has his contact information, he might be able to solve all my questions in a matter of moments. Sorry, I ramble at 3am =)

Thanks for that bit of information. All I really need now, is for someone to tell me an approximate value of the cue, and if it would be worth refinishing.

Thanks,

Chris.

A lot of people like cues with patina to them, like this one has. And some like them all new and shiny. To each his own. If you are going to play daily with it, maybe a refinish and tune up is in order. But regardless, it is worth the investment, if that is what you decide.
As to value, I have no idea, as I am not into Palmer cues like some here. There is some here that know them like the back of their hand, so they could help you out on that. Hopefully one will come along and let ya know.

Oh, I dig patina. I am leaving my old JOSS and the Huebler age gracefully. But a lifted and broken point goes beyond patina IMHO and should be repaired. Thankfully the point is ebony, which should make hiding a repair easier I would think. If it were bad enough the entire point could be replaced, but I am betting this can be repaired nicely without going that far.

I dig the cue, as it is, currently. I love character/patina on a cue.

BTW, is it for sale?

LOL, I looked right over that pic of the tip of the point. I do like the patina on this cue though (the wrap etc...), gives it character.

Having the cue in my hands, I can tell you that the entire tip will not need to
be replaced. The tip had lifted just a bit on that one, and the very end of the
tip was up a few thousands (right where it's as thin as it gets, of course), and
it would have taken nothing but brushing against it to snap the very end off. If
the tip is replaced, the entirety of that point would be level in the process of
refinishing. I doubt that someone like Scott Sherbine would even charge extra
for the end of the tip.

I HOPE it can be refinished without having to change the wrap, as the wrap is
almost certainly Cortland linen, and feels amazing! The cue also has been used
very little from the specs I got. Full 13mm shafts, and dead straight.

Thanks again to everyone for their input.

Chris
