I think since the evacuation debacle of Rita was fresh in everyone's minds, we got it right this time. Mandatory evacuations were allowed to leave first, mostly on Thursday. Those who did not have to evacuate mostly left on Friday. We didn't leave during Rita, but this time my wife is a little bit preggers, so we basically left for her sake.

My wife and I left early Friday morning from downtown Houston to San Antonio and it was a regular 3 hour commute. I must say the natives in San Antonio have treated us quite well. I got to play the Quarry golf course for $40. They were having an evacuee special because they knew they would get a huge influx. So kudos to them for not gouging when they could have. My mom (where we are staying), wife and I went out to eat to Rosario's (highly recommend) at night and then we called it a day.

We're staying with my Mom next to Clicks on Bitters. If I hear that there is any cheap one pocket action in there, I might just drop by. But I don't wanna hear any crying when I beat you guys with a Wallabushka!

The Red Cross is a GREAT organization and most of their personnel are VOLUNTEERS. They know how to stretch a dollar. The Red Cross is there in Texas now, providing food, water, clothing and shelter.

I finally spoke to Mindy with Legends in League City.

They are opening today!! This is great news, however the entire area is not as fortunate. The lodging that is open is packed with evacuees. This WILL not change much in the next few weeks.

There is a HIGH likelihood that the Houston Open will attempt to change dates!

As soon as information is available, I will post it.

Bolivar peninsula, Galveston Island, Seabrooke, Kemah and High Island are completely wiped. The projection is that 80% of power will be restored by thursday of next week. My house lost some shingles and a pine tree got blown into my neighbors house. My neighborhood was devastated by wind damage. I left last Wednesday and will not return till power is restored. My neighbor said I came out smelling like a rose. There are some rumors that thousands of people on Galveston Island got washed out to sea, HOWEVER, this is just a RUMOR, at this point. Galveston county is establishing a missing persons hotline.
