its a sad day in our history when people are dying and others think of nothing but stealing. It would be different if they took food and water, supplies used for survival but stealing guns to shoot people with its totally fubar

I found this last night. It's streaming police scanners from New Orleans. Last night, there was talk about the buses from the Superdome going to Houston. I didn't think it was true, but this morning I found out it was.

My husband and I are both originaly from Louisiana. We have relatives in Louisiana, Mississippi and Alabama. Most of our immediate family ie parents, aunts, uncles, cousins, 2nd cousins etc are ok and we have heard from them. We don't know if all the families are ok. I know there are some that we haven't been able to find out info. This is extended family members and friends. We have been watching with devastation all that is going on and are thankful for the family and friends we know are safe and praying for the family and friends that there is no information on. I guess that is all I can say right now. We are so torn by what is happening to our home state I am without any more words.

Horrible situation ...
Those poor people down there. I have been watching CNN
for the past couple of days. I am really interested to see
if any International help will come our way, especially from
countries that we have helped so much.
Crazy idea but, why couldn't someone in the billiard
industry donate 4-6 tables to the Astrodome and some
cues and things, for the people there, and let them
play pool during the days while they will be waiting so
long. At least they would have something to do instead
of just sitting around everyday.

It's a nice idea, but I just don't think it would work. Considering the conditions in that place and the stress those folks are under and the number of fights that have already broken out...along with the tensions between rival gang members (yep...they can't even have a damned truce during a flippin' disaster)...it wouldn't be long before someone killed somebody with a pool cue.

Politically Incorrect but I got to say it.......I am Ready for Flames.....
Now the the U.S.A. is faced with the Largest Natural Disaster in over 100 Years of Recorded history in the U.S.A., the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina.
Wonder what Countries that the U.S. has Help in their times of need in the last 100 years. Will send the U.S. any Aid, Monetary, or People to Help Out with Body Recovery, Victims Search, etc., etc., etc.?
France, England, Italy, Mexico, etc., etc., etc.
New Media has repored no Help from our Friends in the World?
Think if you have been watching the News Coverage you all of a Sudden Realize, not Every American Drives, a Big Car, and Lives in a Big House on the Hill, and is Wealthy.
Many of the Hurricane Victims apprently had little or nothing, most I am sure had not insured their little or nothing, many now HAVE on what they have in a Box, Suit Case or on Their Backs...

Just got off the phone and both Jeff (Guido) and Matt Bulfin's house were destroyed. They are both safe.

I'm not sure where the pool players live, but I came across this. It's a journal from a person holding a "base" in uptown New Orleans. It has a live feed too, but it's some good reading about up-to-date info. there.

New Media would appear to be very wrong, and if they did imply that no body was coming to assist the US in this time of need then I am offended. Canada has always done everything it can to help the US, and I know that this kindness is a two way street as the US has helped us many times. It's like that when you share so much. For some newspaper to imply that we would not is what I find offensive.

Germany.
BTW, The Canadian government needs to be
recognized for having such a good and helpful
attitude, much like Texas has, and recognizing
that one hand washes the other. Kudos to our
neighbor to the north.

I just got off the phone with my mom. She lives off Highway 13 North, right outside of town. They are in dire need of gas to run the generators. They got people coming from all over trading them gas for use of their four wheelers and equipment. Luckily she had her generator hardwired into the house so it can run the freezers and the office of their business. She even has someone from Lafayette bringing her gas tomorrow she hopes. Lots of downed trees and power lines. Could be weeks before power is restored. REA trucks are just going by joy riding according to my mom. They will need a whole new line run to the house, as the line is laying out in the front lawn.
They have two freezers full of food and enough butane to cook on the gas grill. My step-dad is a friggin genius! He was well prepared for this thing. Spot lights on their property even so if someone comes up, they come on. Really well protected...with guns and ammo to boot. She said one stabbing and one shooting already over gas. Pumps can't run without electricity. Water was finally restored yesterday, but under a water boil warning. Natural gas has been cut off. My step-sisters trailer is fine...appears most structures are okay provided a tree didn't fall on it. My aunt lost her home on the coast...water over 12 foot, even into the attic. My uncle's family lost their home in Gulfport I am sure as well. My mom has friends in Lafayette bringing supplies, bread and water and GAS. They burn about 6-8 gallons a night keep the deep freeze going along with the AC in the office. They may be camping out there.
That's the latest...no local phone service...just cell service through centennial wireless...and she can call out of state, and receive calls on the cell sporadically. I have not had any luck myself in calling her, but she has got calls from Virginia and Oklahoma of my step-dad's oil companies.

Sadly gas went up to 3 bucks today and constantly rising down here. Luckily I bring my cue whereever i go and we have all our clothes, but as for the rest of our belongings.........TV, computer, pet snake, fish, PC parts, Models 
, and jsut about everythig else we own..............Its clueless as to wether it is ok, destroyed or stolen.......I much rather see natural disaster for the reason why we donthave it anymore than look down the street at a wannabe gangsta runnin with my computer > : (

It looks like the thing went right over them. Glad to hear that they are okay.
My friends stepfather is a lineman and he used to go out after all the hurricanes doing repairs. He said at the beginning its always a cluster and
then they start with the higher populated areas. The areas where fixing the lines brings power to the most.
Your folks might not see power for a while if there is major damage. Hopefully the lineman from around the country will start rolling in over the next few days. Most will travel as they make $$$$$$$$ during times like these. Telephone repair guys do the same thing.

Its like a massacre, too horrible... IMO they should screw the police and send in military. Because the police themselves are looting too.
