I do think corey is on to something !

after watching and understanding how his event works gave me an idea for a hybrid type event. it would give all the players a chance to preform a good number of games instead of running into a buzzsaw twice and be outside looking in.
to start everyone plays the ghost a good amount of games. whether it's 4 rounds of 15 games or 60 games all at once it would be an equal opprotunity. then take the top 25% of the field and put them in a double elimination chart to play the money round. all who makes this segment would be in the money.
equal chance to make the cut and then the excitement of match play !!!

your thoughts.........

mine=this may eliminate funny draws and early mismatches. i think this would have it all !!!

well johnny, i guess 10-ball throughout the event. since it is the wave of the future it makes more sense. but thats what i was thinking.

but other games could be involved !

A few years ago, there was a 9-ball game called 99. I don't think it ever took off but it would be similar to your idea...at least playing the ghost part. I always thought if you had some '99' tournaments (since all of the players would be trying to win, there wouldn't be too much sand bagging going on) you could develope a handicap system from the scores of those tournaments. With your added stipulation that the top 25% would then play off for the cash, I think that would add to the 'not sandbagging' idea.

Sounds like a good plan to me. Although, I think it might take a little longer than a normal double elimination tournament.

10-ball would work well. There is a game of 14.1 called Equal Offense that could be adapted for this method of tournament as well.

I hope this takes off and gets somewhere. It does sound better than the normal double elimination tournamt as you do have a good chance to show your stuff rather than getting those two tough draws right out of the gate as mentioned.

L8R...Ken
