all at the same time playing left handed/one handed, blindfolded....blah blah blah.

As you can tell I am just kidding, but I bring this up because I have heard some local players tell some tall tales of beating some legends of pool. This one fellow I know, who can barely run a rack, told me that when Efren first came to the USA, he played Efren WITH NO SPOT and beat him out of $5000. Isn't it funny how people come up with these outrageous stories? I've known this guy for years, and he has never played any better than the way he plays now.

I think every town has those players.

These are the same guys who could not get out of a wet paper bag. Couldnt run out of a door. Same guys will make a game with you then back down right before post!

AKA - NITS!

Yes, they are all over!
The ones that I personally find the most laughable are the "Nits"( thank you Brady) that go around telling people that they have beat not only pro players but some local players. This has happened to Bob many times. In his youth (lol, sorry Bob) he was one of the best in our area. I still to this day hear people who brag about not only knowing him but beating him. I let them roll on with their tall stories then introduce myself as his wife of now countless years.

These are the same players who have beaten the best. It's mostly an ego lack of attention personality disorder.

They do make for interesting bar chat and live entertainment.

I used to be pretty heavy into martial arts and there were a lot of people in it that talked a lot of smack. That venue lent itself well to people telling tall tales, especially the older people because they are not expected to be able to show their stuff. I thought pool would be different because you can get on the table and it doesn't matter whether you're young or old thus giving someone the ability to clock your speed. I am always amazed when someone you're playing starts telling tall tales and while their talking you're drilling them without having to bear down. I can't tell you how many guys have told me they put themselves through college playing pool and they just don't exhibit any skill at the table. It's kind of sad to me that someone has to invent a past.

I played in the Open Last year and my first draw was Santos Sambajon!

He wins the lag, Breaks makes nothing and I ran out for victory..

You can see the crowd really loving this action..lol.I Felt sorry for Dan Dishaw and Keith Josey..lol

Hey I beat the guy that beat Greg Fix! Thats about all I got when it comes to bragging.. Who is Greg Fix?!

I can't help but laugh at all the stories some people tell out there,
most of them are so farfetched the nits just get laughed at.

It amazing how some folks have selective memory. They seem to always brag about those magnificant wins in glorious detail. You never hear the losses described in any detail. If they brag about beating your husband, he must be considered a good player or they would not even mention their unprecedented win.

It is usually the nits who boast ad infinitum about beating the higher-caliber player. When asked to stop talking and start chalking, step up to the plate, Mr. I.M. Nit-Braggart will usually fold and retreat to the rail-side pretty quickly.

There's one word that usually puts a stop to that nit bantering.
Post.

Fish Stories

There are always those who tell "fish stories" about practically anything. I get a kick out of these people, usually drunk, telling "fish stories" It's priceless watching them backpeddle, when you have the opportunity to call them out with some kind of proof.

I beat a guy who beat a guy that beat a guy that beat jose'parica!....LOL!!!!
Now that's entertainment...=))

My grandfather used to tell similar stories every time he went on a fishing trip. He even caught a mermaid once.

Yeah, there's a guy in my homeroom that claims he beat Archer left-handed.

Wait, sorry. That one is true.

I prefer to talk about all the guys who beat me. You got a minute?

Larry Lisciotti, Wade Crane, Jersey Red, Luther Lassiter, Willie Mosconi, (yes, I have played both these guys, I'm that old) Richie Ambrose, Johnny Ervolino, Richie Florence, Jeff Carter, Jim Mataya, Ronnie Allen, Keith McCready, Buddy Hall, Cole Dixon, Brian Hashimoto, Jose Parica, Jimmy Reid, Jack Cooney, Pete Margo, Mike Carella, Danny Diliberto, Jimmy Marino, Grady Mathews, Bob Hunter, Chris MacDonald, Earl Strickland, Ernesto Dominguez, Morro Paez and Tang Hoa just to name a few. There's more but these are only the ones who come to mind immediately. I've played the best and lost to them all....almost!

I really can't fathom these guys , ok you will always hear someone say I used to be good etc. etc. , but recently I ran into a guy who claimed to be an ex rm owner and said he could not play anymore because he injured his arm but he robbed Parica when Parica came into this country - he robbed Sang Lee at Billiards etc. -

I have beat Niels Feijen one-handed for 40 $, race to 2 ;)

And I have won a couple of sets against Efren Reyes, but lost 10 times more :D

BUT, I have won! :p
